It may not be referred to that on CBS or ESPN anymore, but it’s still known as that to the fans of Florida and Georgia who congregate to Jacksonville every year for the annual rivalry game that is one of the best in college football. Yes, people get drunk, yes, people fall flat on their faces, but there’s nothing wrong with calling it the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. It adds an allure and character to the game. Plus, seeing the hot women from both schools is not a bad thing either.
Anyway, I’m getting off track. I think it was posting the picture of Mariko Izumi last night that has thrown me off.

They are outstanding football teams but with all these teams being beaten around conferences in college football, it underlines the case even more that Boise State, TCU and Utah have an inherent advantage. Their schedule doesn’t challenge them as much as the others. If we’re going to hold everybody to the same measurement then we have to take that into effect even more than I thought at the beginning of the season. Just because you’re undefeated, that should not be the tie- breaker in this. There has to be more factors. Right now their strength of schedules are way down compared to some of the teams that I’ve been covering.Georgia and Florida StrugglesThe fascinating part about the Georgia-Florida game is the struggle of both of these teams. Sometimes these top schools, just as a generalization, when things go bad their fan base will go, ‘Why us?’ Why is this happening to us? You get a ‘Why me?”- type of thing for the players. These kids that go to Georgia or Florida, maybe the way they should look at it is, ‘Why not us? Why not me?’ They’re not immune. They’re not guaranteed wins. It’s hard to win and I think Florida’s finding this out because the recruits they’ve had the last few years thought they’d just throw on a Florida Gator uniform and they’d automatically be guaranteed 10, 11 wins and a BCS Bowl. They’re under-selling the amount of work that went into being good.
A.J. GreenI’m not surprised that Georgia has made another run. I think they may have in A.J. Green, the most outstanding wide-receiver in college football. One of the interesting things about college football compared to the NFL is that one player in the NFL, if he’s a quarterback, can have a huge impact on a team. But everybody else is pretty darn good, and it’s hard for one receiver or one lineman or one running back, to have that big of an impact on any team. But in college football, one great player, like an A.J. Green, can have a big impact on everyone else on the field. So I’m not surprised that Georgia has come back strong now that A.J. has joined the team.
