No Amazing Racers in New York for the Finale?

From one of the excellent TAR Detectives from Reality Fan Forum and TARFlies, GeorgiaPeach, we get this news about next week’s plans for The Amazing Race finale.

I am so sad to have to share this news with you all.

As of this writing CBS/TES (The Early Show) are not planning to bring the TAR 12 racers to NYC for the traditional final interviews and check presentation.

After working on this most of Friday, I can tell you that I believe the decision rests primarily in the hands of The Early Show’s new executive producer, Shelley Ross. As you probably know, there have been no eliminated team interviews on TES this season. The Early Show has just unveiled a new format on Jan 7, and apparently they may not be entirely convinced of the large ready made fan base they have in the Internet TAR community.

TAR and the Early Show have a long and happy history together, and the eliminated racer interviews were always a pleasure to watch. Since the hosts actually watch and enjoy the show, that added enormously to the interesting interviews. And many of our Internet community are articulate, well-travelled adults who exactly fit TES target demographics.

It is my understanding, however, that this decision may NOT be 100% set in stone and could be open to change, IF The Early Show producers can be convinced that the doing so could help their ratings. Since Monday is a holiday and many more people than usual may have the opportunity to watch the show, I believe that this is a perfect chance for TES to benefit from our very large and enthusiastic fan base.

If you would like to help, you can send an email to the CBS audience service line at audsvcs@cbs.com
explaining why you think TES should bring the racers to NYC and most importantly, how that would benefit them and their ratings.

You can also call CBS on Monday at CBS News: 212-975-4114 and ask for The Early Show and leave a (polite please!) message for the producer, Ms Shelley Ross.
Or you can email her assistant at kestink@cbsnews.com

It may also help to email the media/publicity manager: mitch.graham@tvc.cbs.com

I believe that there is still a possibility that our combined efforts could change the minds of the CBS team making this decision.

I am going to the famous TARCon in New York for the first time. Granted, whether I meet the racers or not is secondary, I look forward to meeting fellow fans of TAR, but just a chance to talk to racers is a bonus. As Peach said, if you want to see the check presentation on The Early Show, please e-mail CBS (nicely, I can’t stress that enough) and let the network know you want to see them on the show.

Thanks.
