USA-Portugal on Univision Reaches 6.5 Million Viewers

While ESPN is making the headlines on its viewership for USA-Portugal in the World Cup, Univision did quite well too. ESPN saw an audience of 18.2 million viewers. Univision/Univision Deportes reached 6.5 million which brings the total audience to an amazing 24.7 million viewers.

Univision says its audience in the key 18-49 demographic was 3.6 million viewers which is also quite good.

So the total audience is the most for a US Men’s National Team match on Univision. And in Univision ranked first among broadcast stations in heavily Hispanic markets of Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Phoenix, Sacramento and San Francisco.

Online, Univision saw 1.5 million views for the game. Very impressive.

  • Univision Deportes’ coverage of the USA vs. Portugal match of the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014™ delivered the most-viewed USA match in Univision Deportes World Cup history, with an average of 6.5 million Total Viewers and 3.6 million Adults 18-49. The match aired on the Univision Network, which was simulcast on Univision Deportes Network (UDN), on Sunday, June 22, 2014.
  • Univision Deportes’ USA vs. Portugal match out delivered the opening USA match (vs. Ghana) of the 2014 World Cup by +35% with Total Viewers and +31% with Adults 18-49.
  • Univision Deportes’ coverage of the 2014 World Cup is pacing ahead of its 2010 World Cup coverage by +48% among Total Viewers and +34% among Adults 18-49 through 32 matches.

In fact, Univision stations had more than twice the audience of ABC in Miami among Total Viewers in Houston among Adults 18-49.

During the match between South Korea and Algeria (3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. ET), Univision was the highest rated broadcast station among:

  • Total Viewers in Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas and Phoenix
  • Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas and Phoenix
  • Adults 18-34 in Miami, Houston and Phoenix

  • The South Korea vs. Algeria match on June 22 received 453K views, followed by the Belgium vs. Russia match with 451K views.
  • The Univision Deportes App continues to rank as the No. 1 free sports app in the Google Play Store for the seventh consecutive day. The app has ranked among the top five free sports apps in both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store since the start of the 2014 World Cup.
