Videos of the Week, Part 1 – Robert Goulet

Last week, singer Robert Goulet passed away at the age of 73. He was a man of great talent. He won an Emmy, a Grammy and a Tony Award. Not bad. And he could belt out tune like nobody’s business. When he passed, of course, the tributes came out and they were well deserved. He died awaiting a decision on a lung transplant and it’s really too bad he passed in that fashion. But is there really a good way to die? In any event, some of my favorite ESPN promos (before ESPN got too engrossed with itself) were the ones for college basketball that Goulet did in the 1990’s. Not only were they great and showcased his voice, but they also showed his sense of humor. Don’t forget, he was also in The Naked Gun 2 1/2 as Quentin Hapsburg.

Here are just a few of his ESPN promos. We Are Kentucky.

The second. Look Out Here Comes the Jayhawks.

The third on Coach Dean Smith. Capice?

Number Four – U! C! L! A!. That’s a toe-tapper.

Number Five – The Coach from Indiana. I love this.

My all time favorite. Number Six – Big Monday is here again. School night? Schmool night! I’ll give you Pop Quiz right in the kisser!

Number Seven. Arkansas, will you make the Final Four?

Number Eight – Championship Week

I’ll do the second set of promos in a bit.
