Sports Media Weekly No. 156 — Steve Lepore, SB Nation and Peter Burns, Mile High Radio

This is one of our longest podcasts ever, but with so many topics, it’s really warranted. Keith Thibault of Sports Media Journal and I went over a lot of subjects with our guests, Steve Lepore, sports media and NHL writer for SB Nation and Peter Burns, morning drive host at Mile High Radio.

Steve is our “Third Man In” this week to talk about a lot of issues. Among the topics discussed:

  • Keith Olbermann surprising returning to ESPN2.
  • The Big Lead’s report that Olbermann could host a week of SportsCenter the week before his show premieres.
  • Fox Sports 1’s carriage issues with Cox, DirecTV, Dish and Time Warner Cable.
  • Fox Sports 1’s new image spot that aired during the MLB All-Star Game.
  • Regis Philbin’s new show on Fox Sports 1.
  • All-Star Game ratings

Lots of stuff.

Our guest for the second segment is Peter Burns, morning drive host of Mile High Radio. Keith and I talked with Peter about the new collaboration between his show that is aired on two Denver radio stations and the Denver Post which will stream it live online, mobiles and tablets.

We also talked with Peter about the one year anniversary of the Aurora, CO movie theater shootings and the passing of Peter’s good friend Jessica Redfield and how he’s working to keep her name alive.

It’s a strong podcast and I hope you’ll be patient to stay with it for the entire episode. Search in iTunes for “Sports Media Journal” and you can hear it right here.
