Fang’s Bites Podcast No. 2 — Gina Miller, That Sports Girl Media & Bill Voth, Spiracle Media

Time for the second edition of the Fang’s Bites podcast. No breaking news this time, but I wanted to get two former local TV sports anchors on to talk about their experiences in covering sports in their local markets of Dallas and Charlotte in the day and age of social media.

The first guest is Gina Miller, formerly of the CBS owned-and-operated CBS11/TXA21 in Dallas. She left the duopoly earlier this year to spend time on her own company, That Sports Girl Media. When she worked for CBS11/TXA21, she was in a unique situation where her station was one of the few broadcast channels to air live sports with the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Stars.

Bill Voth covered sports for WSOC-TV in Charlotte and began to see the power of social media. He left the station to form Spiracle Media.

With Gail and Bill, the following topics were discussed:

  • How they saw social media taking a foothold in their sports reporting.
  • How their agencies advise clients how to use social media.
  • What Twitter and Facebook and other social media have affected local sports.
  • Where they see the mediums in the future.

It’s almost an hour, but overall, this is stuff that I found quite fascinating and I hope you do as well.

And in the final segment, I disclose the future of the Fang’s Bites podcast and what’s next in store.
