The Future of Fang’s Bites

If you didn’t see my announcement on my Twitter account or my personal Facebook page, you may not be aware that I have accepted a position as Director of Content at the GoLocal24 sites, GoLocalProv, GoLocalWorcester and the soon-to-be launched GoLocalPDX. The job offer came suddenly last week and I accepted a couple of days later. I’ll be starting there on Monday, May 19.

I hope you’ll visit those sites plus any future GoLocal sites that will be launched down the road. This is an exciting opportunity and I hope to grow with a company that began just three years ago and is already quite successful.

Now what does this mean for Fang’s Bites? Well, it means I’ll still be updating the site, but with a new work schedule, I won’t be able to post news during the day. You will continue to see the Viewing Picks as well as a couple of other posts in the morning. I’m working on getting a writer to help with breaking news and I’ll let you know more about that down the road.

Unfortunately, I will have to suspend the Fang’s Bites podcast for now. It has been fun to do, but until I figure out my schedule for free time away from work, I’ll have to end with Fang’s Bites Podcast No. 16. I was hoping to get Sports Media Weekly faves Michelle Beadle and Ian Eagle as guests for future editions, however that will have to wait until I get the work schedule straightened out. I will let you know when I am able to get the podcast started again. Until further notice, the podcast will be on hiatus.

As for Awful Announcing, I will continue writing for the site during my spare time. AA and its parent company, Bloguin have been great to me since I joined the site in March of last year and editor Matt Yoder has been wonderful and totally understanding when I informed him of my new career opportunity. And CEO Ben Koo helped to transition this site to the Bloguin servers which has given Fang’s Bites even more exposure and room.

I will continue to follow the sports media and write about the machinations behind the industry for as long as I am able. Thanks to you for reading and thanks to the many supporters who have come on board since I started this site on May 2, 2007. It’s hard to believe that it’s been seven years since I began and the time has gone quickly. This site has grown from being on the Blogger site to a self-hosted WordPress server and now to Bloguin. And when I began, I was happy with 100 unique visits a day. It’s grown to over 2,500 unique pageviews with plenty of industry readers. I never thought that would happen in 2007.

As mentioned, I’ll figure out the work schedule and update the site around it. You’ll continue to be informed on the latest sports media industry news plus all of the latest press releases.

I joked on Twitter that the networks won’t get rid of me that easily and I look forward to continue serving you for many years to come.
