WestwoodOne Covers 2014 Winter Olympics Like a Blanket

Continuing as the U.S. radio rightsholder for the Olympics since 1988 in Seoul, South Korea, WestwoodOne Radio will be on the scene in Sochi for the XXII Olympic Winter Games.

WestwoodOne will provide daily around the clock updates as many as three times per hour. In addition, the network will air long form programming, two hours each night from Sochi.

The network will also provide play-by-play coverage of each Team USA men’s hockey game for as long as it’s in the Olympic tournament. Steve Goldstein and Bret Hedican will be the team calling the games.

NEW YORK, NY, February 5, 2014 – WestwoodOne, America’s network radio leader in live play-by-play sports, is proud to partner with U. S. Olympics Rights holder NBC Universal to present live radio coverage of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games from Sochi Russia. From the moment the Olympic Torch is lit on Friday, February 7, through the Closing Ceremony on Sunday February 23, WestwoodOne Sports will once again be on hand to provide exclusive in-depth coverage of the Winter Olympics.

WestwoodOne will broadcast throughout the Games as the live events unfold, with around-the-clock Olympic updates three times per hour; live Team USA and Gold Medal Game Ice Hockey play-by-play; live coverage of various Olympic Winter events, including figure skating, speed skating, skiing, bobsleigh and luge; and a nightly Olympic wrap-up show recapping the day’s events.

WestwoodOne’s coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics–heard on radio stations nationwide, as well as SiriusXM satellite radio—will bring the excitement of Olympic competition to millions of listeners around the country.

WestwoodOne’s programing will include:

  • Shortform Coverage – Olympic Updates
    • Three times an hour, 24/7, from February 7- February 23
  • Longform Coverage – Today in Sochi
    • Two hours of longform coverage for 17 consecutive nights, from February 7-February 23. Daily wrap-up all the day’s action, plus include play-by-play from events, as well as previews and interviews from all the significant venues and disciplines.
  • U.S. Olympic Hockey (Men’s and Women’s)
    • Live play-by-play coverage of every Men’s Team USA hockey game.
      • Men’s Gold Medal Game (regardless of participants) will be presented on February 23.
      • Women’s Gold Medal Hockey Game (regardless of participants) will be presented on Thursday, February 20.

WestwoodOne’s Winter Olympics coverage will feature an all-star team of announcers and former Olympians:

  • Longform Hosts: John Tautges and Kevin Kugler
  • Opening/Closing Ceremonies: Joe Tolleson and David Wallechinsky
  • Hockey: Steve Goldstein and Bret Hedican (two-time U.S. Olympian)
