Your 2014 Week 4 NFL Primer

So what’s up for this week?
First, we begin the byes for this season. After three weeks of a full slate, we have six teams (Atlanta, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Denver, Seattle and St. Louis) taking the week off plus the New York Giants and Washington getting extra days off due to the Thursday night game.

This means fewer games today?
Yes, it means seven games in the 1 p.m. ET window (four on CBS, three on Fox) and three late games (one on CBS and two on Fox).

What are the games of the day?
Green Bay at Chicago, 1 p.m. on Fox (Kevin Burkhardt/John Lynch//Pam Oliver) which is always fascinating no matter what the records are. It’s the oldest NFL rivalry and always fun to watch.

Carolina at Baltimore, 1 p.m. on CBS (Greg Gumbel/Trent Green//Evan Washburn) has wide receiver Steve Smith facing his old team for the first time. Two teams going into this game with different concerns. Panthers coming off a bruising loss last Sunday night. Ravens are riding high after coming from behind against Cleveland.

Philadelphia at San Francisco, 4:25, p.m. on Fox (Joe Buck/Troy Aikman//Erin Andrews) brings two classic NFL franchises together. Eagles coming off an emotional division win over the DC NFL Team and San Francisco is reeling after losing to Arizona. Can Philadelphia’s offense click early after three slow starts this season? What about the Niners? can they bounce back?

And there’s the Sunday night game between New Orleans and Dallas. The Saints hope to continue their momentum after getting their first win last week. And Tony Romo hopes to continue his good fortune after a bad opening game.

We have a Crossover Game?
Yup, Carolina at Baltimore which would have been on Fox last season is given to CBS this season. And by giving the game to CBS, it balances out the day as both CBS and Fox air a total of five games today.

And there’s a game in London?
Yes, the first of three this season. Miami-Oakland at Wembley Stadium is on CBS at 6 p.m. London time/1 p.m. ET (Ian Eagle/Dan Fouts//Jenny Dell). I’m sure the UK fans will be thrilled to see a Raiders team that is 0-3 so far.

Anything else?
The Thursday Night Football crew of Jim Nantz, Phil Simms and Tracy Wolfson get their first Sunday off of the season. They’ll get a few more as the season continues.

So is there anything else we should know?
No, that is it for this week. Enjoy your Sunday.
