NFL Crossflexes Again in Week 15; Browns to Fox Again; Week 16 Saturday Doubleheader Set

There’s no Sunday night flex, but for the second week in a row, the Cleveland Browns get crossflexed to Fox. For Week 14, the Browns game against the Indianapolis Colts was moved from CBS to Fox and on Sunday, December 14, the Browns will be sent to Fox for the second week in a row.

This is all part of the new NFL TV contract where CBS can air various NFC games and Fox can air selected AFC games. While it’s confusing to see an AFC game on Fox and NFC matchup on CBS, the NFL hopes you’ll get this down the road.

In any event, Cincinnati-Cleveland will be on Fox in Week 15. That will make up for the Minnesota at Detroit game being moved from 1 p.m. to the late afternoon 4:25 ET window. This gives CBS five games in the early window and Fox four games.

Late, both CBS and Fox will have two games with the NFC being in the national 4:25 p.m. window.

In addition, the NFL has announced the times and networks for the Week 16 Saturday doubleheader. NFL Network will have the Philadelphia-Washington game at 4:30 p.m. ET while CBS/NFL Network will simulcast San Diego at San Francisco in the primetime slot at 8:25 p.m. CBS will produce both games. Announcers will be unveiled at a later date.

Here’s the NFL’s announcement on the Week 15 crossflex plus the Week 16 Saturday doubleheader.

The NFL uses “flexible scheduling” to ensure quality matchups in all NFL Sunday time slots and to give teams a chance to play their way onto primetime and into the late afternoon 4:25 PM ET time slot on CBS or FOX.

For the first time, flexible scheduling may be applied in Weeks 5-10. During that period, flexible scheduling can be used in no more than two weeks by shifting a Sunday afternoon game into primetime and moving the Sunday night game to an afternoon start time.

Also, for the first time, a select number of games are being “cross-flexed,” moving between CBS and FOX to bring potentially under-distributed games to wider audiences.

The NFL will continue to use flexible scheduling on Sundays in Weeks 11-17. For each flexible scheduling week with the exception of Week 17, the NFL announces the start times of games on Sundays no later than 12 days prior to that weekend.

To ensure a Sunday night game and doubleheader games with playoff implications in Week 17, flexible scheduling decisions for that Sunday can be made on six days notice.

There you have it. And we expect the NFL to finalize the Week 16 schedule on Sunday so once we have that information, I’ll pass it along ASAP.
