The Top 100 is a ten-part series counting down the 100 greatest players in NFL history, as determined by a blue-ribbon panel of football experts, including former players, historians, scouts, team executives and writers. As each member of the Top 100 is revealed, their story is told by a single “presenter” – chosen from the worlds of sports, politics, film, television and literature – who possesses particular interest in that player and insight into his greatness.
Episode Four of ‘The Season’ on NFL.com Focuses on How Football Has Emerged as a Global Pastime

The fourth episode of ‘The Season’ is now available on NFL.com. This week’s focus is on the ways in which football has become a worldwide interest and pastime. The episode features a look at high school football in the town of Unity, OR where the population is 100 and the nearest NFL team is seven hours away. The high school football team consists of an eight-man lineup where every man plays every down of every single game, and seven of the eight players are foreign exchange students who are just beginning to learn English, let alone the game of football.
The episode also takes a look at the emerging tradition within the NFL of holding an overseas game, and the ways in which this practice has gained traction with both players and audiences worldwide. Between teaching football to exchange students and the ever-increasing popularity of the overseas game, ‘The Season’ makes it clear that football has gained universal appeal.
Every week on NFL.com, a new webisode of ‘The Season’ will premiere, opening a new window into professional football to which fans and observers are usually not privy. The characters that will emerge over the next 12 weeks will spread across a broad spectrum—from quarterbacks to coaches, general managers to scouts, beer vendors to executives.  ‘The Season’ is a project that’s not so much the story of the 2010 NFL season, but the tale of an NFL season – an important distinction.  While who wins and who loses, who stars and who fumbles are all part of the story, they’re more incidental to the greater purpose of the piece – to provide a single, all-encompassing biography of a season.
