NFL Gameday Morning Quotage From Week 1

Ok, like last year, I will post Sunday NFL pregame quotage from the networks. Unlike last year, I will separate the quotage via network and not put them all into one post. I have NFL Network, CBS and Fox. I don’t have ESPN’s yet. When I do, I’ll post it. Here’s what was said on NFL Network’s NFL Gameday Morning show.

News and Sound Bites From 2010 Kickoff Episode of NFL GAMEDAY MORNING

“I’ve always said that I want to present the jersey to Barack… that was my goal a couple of years ago. Before he gets out of the White House, I want to be able to present him that jersey.”  Redskins QB Donovan McNabb on wanting to win a Super Bowl in Washington
“My criticisms shouldn’t inspire him. Looking at his hands with no rings should inspire him.”  Michael Irvin on Cowboys WR Roy Williams
Super Bowl Picks:
Faulk – Packers over Ravens
Mariucci – Colts over Saints
Sapp – Colts over Packers
Irvin – Chargers over Packers
NFL GameDay Morning, the FIRST pregame show on the air Sunday morning kicked off its third season on the air at 9:00 AM ET, taking viewers straight up to kickoff. New host Rich Eisen joins analysts Michael Irvin, Warren Sapp, Marshall Faulk and Steve Mariucci to bring fans the latest news, injury reports, pregame analysis and game previews

‘Sunday Sit-Down’ – Irvin 1-on-1 with Redskins QB Donovan McNabb:
NFL Network’s Michael Irvin sat down with new Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb for a candid conversation with the veteran QB starting his 12th NFL season with a new team. McNabb addressed the status of his ankle, DT Albert Haynesworth and the overall state of the Redskins organization under new head coach Mike Shanahan:
“It’s exciting. I’m always big on big challenges and when your back is against the wall, how you respond.” – McNabb on starting new in Washington
“He’s a coach. He makes the decisions and that was the decision he made. Some coaches would have handled it differently, but this is Mike Shanahan. This is his ball club, this is his team and we have to follow suit.” – McNabb on how Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan handled the situation with DT Albert Haynesworth
“You have to play the game. Anybody would have been frustrated by the way it went on. We’ve all laughed and joked about some of the things that were going on to ease the pain a little bit, but Albert knows we definitely need him in order to accomplish what we’ve set out to accomplish.” – McNabb on what his advice to Haynesworth would be
“I’m a guy that’s going to continue to lead by example. I’m in the film room on my days off, I’m spending time talking to coaches, I’m going over the game plan, trying to be prepared for when we come out on Sunday. Those are leadership roles that they don’t talk about.” – McNabb on his leadership ability
“I’ve always said that I want to present the jersey to Barack… that was my goal a couple of years ago. Before he gets out of the White House, I want to be able to present him that jersey.” – McNabb on wanting to win a Super Bowl in Washington and present a jersey to President Barack Obama

Quotes from NFL GameDay Morning:
“This is a trap game, so [Falcons] be on your guard. Dennis Dixon can get the job done in Pittsburgh.” Warren Sapp on Falcons vs. Steelers
“If Matt Ryan is going to do well, it depends on Michael Turner returning to his old form.” Michael Irvin on Falcons QB Matt Ryan and RB Michael Turner
“If I have the Saints on my schedule, I would be thinking, ‘How do I beat this team?’” Marshall Faulk on the Saints
“If the Saints defense can continue to perform with that offense, we are talking about seeing for the first time an NFC team repeating as Super Bowl champs – since my Dallas Cowboys.” Irvin on the New Orleans Saints
“He’s in what I called the ‘legendary Bermuda Triangle.’ He has to replace the legend of Donovan McNabb, then face the legendary fans in Philly and he’s in charge of an aspiring legendary coaching career of Andy Reid.” Irvin on Eagles Kevin Kolb being the NFC East QB facing the most pressure
“The ‘U’ is a sore subject, unless it’s the ‘U’ of Michigan.” University of Michigan alum Rich Eisen, to Miami alum Michael Irvin. Michigan defeated Notre Dame 28-24, while Miami fell to Ohio State 36-24 on Saturday.
“I don’t care if they have Batman and Robin; you can get Catwoman, Spiderman, Aquaman – I don’t care if you get the whole Marvel Comics, they are still the Bengals.” – Faulk on the Cincinnati Bengals
“Carson Palmer is the most important player to the Cincinnati Bengals’ offense. He has to be able to go out and distribute the ball.” Sapp on QB Carson Palmer
“Anytime Bill Belichick wants to take you away and make someone else the option, that means you’re the focal point. Cedric Benson is the guy in Cincinnati.” Faulk on RB Cedric Benson being the most important player to the Bengals’ offense
“There are a few things we know. We know Albert Haynesworth is a heck of a player when he wants to be. Number two, we know Mike Shanahan is a heck of a coach and [number three] Dan Snyder is trying to win, we know that. However from the outside looking in, it looks like these men are not compatible.” Mariucci on the situation in Washington with DT Albert Haynesworth
“If Mike Shanahan can remove himself and allow the players to deal with Albert Haynesworth, I believe he’s going to come out and play…he earned $100 million doing something.” Faulk on the Albert Haynesworth situation
“Someone in the organization thought you were Reggie White.” Sapp on Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth
“Talent-wise, they are a great football team, but when it comes to matchups, San Diego gives them fits.” Irvin on the Indianapolis Colts
“He’s a one-man wrecking crew and it’s good when your best player is your hardest worker. He’s going to be there for a long time.” Mariucci on Lions DT Ndamukong Suh
“[Ahmad] Bradshaw gives the Giants more elusiveness. If the play breaks down, he’s quick in the hole and can reverse field. He can turn a three-yard loss into a four-yard gain. With [Brandon] Jacobs, he’s got to get his shoulders square and run downhill because when he goes lateral, he can’t get things done. The Giants have to get back to physical football.” Bob Papa on the Giants running game with RBs Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs
“Yes, C.J., he’s fast, but A.P. is power. If you’ve got a great offensive line with C.J., he’s great, but if you have a poor offensive line with C.J., you’re in trouble. If I’ve got A.P, even with a poor offensive line, his power and speed makes any offensive line better.” – Irvin on whether Chris Johnson or Adrian Peterson is the more valuable running back
“My criticisms shouldn’t inspire him. Looking at his hands with no rings should inspire him.” – Irvin on Cowboys WR Roy Williams
“The best receiving corps in the league is in Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers will find them.” – Sapp on the Green Bay Packers
“This game will be closer than you think. The Rams will come out and be competitive.” – Faulk on the St. Louis Rams facing Arizona Cardinals
“You see a guy that looks like Tom and has a beautiful wife like Tom, you say, ‘Tom, you get all the credit.’ But the reality is that defense was winning football games…[The Patriots] cannot do what they used to do. That means the ‘Patriot Way’ is dead. Bill Belichick announced it was dead himself when he went for it on fourth down and didn’t trust that defense.” – Irvin on if ‘The Patriot Way’ is dead
“’The Patriot Way’ was winning Super Bowls, not going to the playoffs.” – Irvin on the New England Patriots
“One thing Bill Belichick does better than anyone else in the league – situational football. That’s what he’s teaching right now, situational football.” – Warren Sapp on Bill Belichick

“Mike now, supposedly, weighs 223 pounds. He hasn’t weighed that since his USC days.” – Mariucci on Seahawks WR Mike Williams
“Mike Tomlin chose not to go with the veteran Charlie Batch and I understand why. They need to find out what they have in Dennis Dixon.” – Mariucci on the Pittsburgh Steelers

Super Bowl Predictions
Marshall Faulk – Packers over Ravens
“They have the recipe – offense, defense and special teams.”
Steve Mariucci – Colts over Saints
“There hasn’t been a rematch in 17 years for the Super Bowl. I think the Colts and Saints get back there, but this time there will not be a surprise onside kick. Colts will win it this time around.”
Warren Sapp – Colts over Packers
“Indy will win it because the quarterback is just a little bit better. [Manning] will not have someone jump his signature route.”
Michael Irvin – Chargers over Packers
Kara Henderson Pregame 1-on-1 with Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin:
“Dennis isn’t going to be the only guy playing, quite frankly. We’ve gotten 11 guys that are going to be on the field playing up to our standards, so that’s why we have the optimism.” – Tomlin on why he’s confident QB Dennis Dixon can lead the Steelers’ offense
“I’ll take Troy in any situation. His health has been something that’s been noteworthy, but he’s fine, as is Aaron Smith and others, so we’re excited to get started in 2010.” Tomlin on the health of Steelers S Troy Polamalu and DE Aaron Smith
