Sunday Night Football Returns With Dan Hicks Substituting For Al Michaels

Sunday Night Football returns to NBC tonight with the Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the new look Indianapolis Colts with new quarterback Andrew Luck. In a twist, Dan Hicks who called swimming in the first week of the Olympics will call the game with Cris Collinsworth and sideline reporter Michele Tafoya as Al Michaels has the week off from the London Games.

You may remember that Dan called the Pro Bowl for Al in Hawaii in February and here he is once again calling the preseason premiere of SNF for NBC so Hicks will have called the last game of the 2011-12 season and the first preseason game of the 2012-13 campaign. Little quirks you notice here.

In addition, new NBC analyst Hines Ward, the former Steelers wide receiver will be making his network debut in the second half of the game. During NBC’s Super Bowl XLVI pregame, Ward had was an on-air audition for the network and it led to this gig with both the NBC mothership and NBC Sports Network.

Here’s the press release from NBC.
