NBCUniversal Programming for Day 0 of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games

Friday marks the official start of the 2014 Sochi Winter Games with the Opening Ceremony at the Lazarevskoye Site.

NBC will air the festivities on tape delay beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. Bob Costas will skip his first Opening Ceremony since becoming official host of NBC Olympics in 1992. He’ll be anchoring from the International Broadcast Center in Sochi. Replacing him will be the team that came under widespread criticism for their poor performance in London, current Today show co-host Matt Lauer and his former partner, Meredith Viera.

Joining Matt and Meredith will be New Yorker magazine editor David Remnick, a former Washington Post Moscow bureau chief. Remnick will be a regular contributor to NBC throughout the Sochi Olympics.

Here’s what NBC is saying about Friday’s coverage.
