Just received this press release from NBC Sports in regards to last night’s Green Bay-Atlanta game. The rematch of last season’s NFC Divisional Playoff game ended with the same result, the Packers going into the Georgia Dome and taking the game from the Falcons. NBC saw a 14.0 rating and a 22 share giving the game the highest overnight rating for a Week 5 contest since the network took over SNF.
Of course, it won the ratings over CBS, ABC and Fox in that order. Plus the rating is 20% higher than last year’s game between Philadelphia and San Francisco which received an 11.7/19.
According to Marc Berman at the TV Media Insights board, when the final numbers are in, NBC should see an audience of over 20 million for the game.
Locally, Milwaukee saw a whopping 51.2 rating and led all US markets.

Milwaukee Leads All Metered Markets With 51.2 RatingNEW YORK – October 10, 2011 – Packers-Falcons on Sunday Night Football was up 20 percent from last year’s Week 5 game and, for the fifth consecutive week, was the No. 1 broadcast on Sunday night, according to overnight data released today by The Nielsen Company.
Last night’s game on NBC, in which the Green Bay Packers remained undefeated with a 25-14 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, registered a 14.0 overnight rating and a 22 share, 20 percent higher than last year’s Week 5 game (Eagels-49ers, 11.7/19), and up 30 percent from the 2009 Week 5 game (Colts-Titans, 10.8/17). Packers-Falcons marked the highest Week 5 overnight rating in the six-year history of SNF.

NBC led the night among metered markets in primetime (7-11 p.m. ET) with a 10.7/17 topping the 8.9/14 for second-place CBS by 20 percent. NBC also beat ABC by 114 percent (5.0/8) and Fox by 529 percent (1.7/3 from 7-10 p.m.).
- On the night, NBC more than doubled the average rating for the other three competing networks (10.7 vs. 5.2).
When the viewership is available tomorrow from Nielsen, Sunday Night Football is expected to be the most-watched Sunday night show (excluding NFL overruns) for the fifth consecutive week, and when including the NFL Kickoff Thursday Night opener, primetime NFL games on NBC will have defeated their competition each time this season. This continues a trend for SNF dominating Sunday nights. Last season, Sunday Night Football was the No. 1 show all 18 nights (100 percent) vs. its competition (16 Sundays, one Tuesday and one Thursday).
