NBC’s Statement on Losing the US Open

NBC Sports has issued a statement on losing the U.S. Open to Fox. Its last telecast of the nation’s golf championship will take place at the Pinehurst No. 2 Course in North Carolina from June 12-15 in 2014. In fact, Pinehurst will also host the U.S. Women’s Open a week later marking the first time the same course has hosted the two championships.

Here’s NBC’s statement:

“The combination of NBC and Golf Channel will continue to be the dominant voice in golf coverage going forward. We’ve enjoyed our 19-year relationship with the USGA, and will continue to serve the golf fan every day.”

In addition, Dan Hicks, the Voice of the U.S. Open had this tweet:

Certainly a big loss for NBC coming a week after a huge win in obtaining NASCAR.
