NBC's Overnights For Day 6 Rise From Beijing, Rise From Day 5; They're Rising Everywhere

NBC has relayed the latest overnight ratings information for Day 6 of the Olympics. With a night that had Michael Phelps winning his 20th career Olympic medal, Rebecca Soni winning gold in the breaststroke and Gabby Douglas winning the Women’s Gymnastics All-Around, NBC had a big night.

The overnight rating was 23.1 with a 39 share. That’s up 10% from Beijing’s 21.0/34 for the 1st Thursday of the Olympics. In addition, it marks the second highest overnight rating of the London Olympics just below the Opening Ceremony last Friday.

It’s also way up from Day 5 of the Olympics which had a 20.1/33 overnight.

The top rated markets for last night were Salt Lake City (again!) and Milwaukee. NBC points out (again!) that the Mountain and Pacific time zones are the top rated regions for the Olympics.

Here are the talking points.

  • Last night NBC drew a 23.1 overnight rating and 39 share (8-Midnight ET/PT), the second-best overnight rating for the London Olympics to date, topping the Opening Ceremony (23.0/40) and just behind Tuesday night’s overnight of 24.0/38.
  • The 23.1/39 Overnight Rating is 10% higher than the comparable night from the 2008 Beijing Olympics (21.0/34) and also topped the comparable night from the 2004 Athens Olympics (23.0/36).
