Let’s take a look at how NBC tries to hype a less than stellar matchup, Philadelphia at San Francisco. We have what the Football Night in America is saying about the Eagles and 49ers.
49ERS HOST EAGLES ON “SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL” – COVERAGE BEGINS WITH “FOOTBALL NIGHT IN AMERICA” AT 7 PM ET
“We’re going to see what Kevin Kolb is all about.” – “Football Night’s” Rodney Harrison“The Eagles had better not be sleeping because San Francisco is desperate.” – “Football Night’s” HarrisonNEW YORK – October 6, 2010 – The Philadelphia Eagles (2-2), tied for first place in the NFC East, travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers (0-4), who are seeking their first win this season on “Sunday Night Football.”Calling Eagles-49ers will be six-time Emmy Award-winner Al Michaels (play-by-play), who is in his 25th season as the voice of the NFL’s premier primetime package; 11-time Emmy Award-winner Cris Collinsworth, who last year, his first in the SNF booth, won the Emmy for outstanding event analyst; and sideline reporter Andrea Kremer about whom TV Guide said is “one of TV’s best sports correspondents.”Coverage begins with “Football Night in America,” at 7 p.m. ET Sunday with Bob Costas, who won the outstanding studio host Emmy last year, hosting live from inside the stadium. Dan Patrick will co-host “Football Night” from NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza studios joined by Super Bowl-winning head coach and Emmy-nominated Tony Dungy, two-time Super Bowl winner Rodney Harrison, and Sports Illustrated’s Peter King. Alex Flanagan will report from Dallas Cowboys Stadium on the Titans-Cowboys game.HARRISON ON THE 49ERS: “The 49ers are a lot better than what their record indicates. They easily could have won a few games over Atlanta and New Orleans. They are still playing hard, have a lot of talent, and are a few plays and turnovers away from really being a pretty good team. The Eagles had better not be sleeping because San Francisco is desperate.”HARRISON ON THE EAGLES: “We’re going to see what Kevin Kolb is all about. Mike Vick could hide some of the offense’s deficiencies. This team definitely needs to play better defensively.”PFT’S MIKE FLORIO ON IF THE 49ERS ARE OUT OF THE NFC WEST RACE AT 0-4: “No, they’re not because of the teams they have in front of them: the Seahawks, who can’t win on the road; the Cardinals who, last I checked, don’t have a quarterback; and the Rams, who are still trying to figure out how to win.”
And we’ll have more later.
