NBC Sports Group Presents 34.5 Hours of US Winter Olympic Trials Including Curling!

NBC is getting ready for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The NBC Sports Group will present 34½ hours of coverage of the US Olympic Trials featuring curling, speed skating, short track speed skating, ski jumping, Nordic Combined and women’s hockey. The coverage will be split between NBC and NBCSN.

Curling will receive 15 hours of coverage with the US Curling Trials in Fargo, ND and it all begins in November. The trials coverage will air through January.

In addition to airing the coverage on television, all events will be streamed live on the NBC Sports Live Extra App.

Trials Coverage Starts with Curling on Friday, November 15 at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN

STAMFORD, Conn.October 7, 2013 – NBC Olympics will present an unprecedented 34.5 hours of live coverage of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Trials across NBC, NBCSN and NBC Sports Live Extra in the months leading up to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Coverage will feature six sports – speed skating, short track, hockey, ski jumping, Nordic combined and curling.

NBC Olympics’ comprehensive 2014 U.S. Olympic Trials coverage will feature some of the most anticipated stories and athletes of the Sochi Games, including speed skater Shani Davis, a two-time Olympic gold medalist; short track speed skater J.R. Celski, who won two bronze medals in Vancouver; the first-ever Trials of women’s ski jumping, which makes its Olympic debut in Sochi; and two matchups between the Canadian and U.S. women’s hockey teams, who have met three times for Olympic gold.

Trials coverage begins on Friday, November 15 at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN with curling from Fargo, N.D., and concludes on Sunday, January 5 at 4 p.m. ET on NBC with short track from the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns, Utah.

All events will be live streamed across NBC Sports Live Extra — the NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, and tablets. The vast majority of events will be live streamed via “TV Everywhere,” the media industry’s effort to make quality content available to authenticated customers both in and out of the home and on multiple platforms.

CURLING

NBCSN will provide 15 hours of Trials coverage of the curling finals from Fargo, N.D. Coverage begins on Friday, November 15 at 3:30 p.m. ET with Match 1 of both men’s and women’s Trials. Coverage of Match 2 of the men’s Trials on NBCSN on Saturday, November 16 will start at 3:30 p.m. ET, followed by Match 2 of the women’s Trials from 8-11 p.m. ET. Match 3 of both Trials, if necessary, will air on Sunday, November 17 starting at noon. The U.S. men’s curling team will have to qualify for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics following the Trials.

HOCKEY

NBCSN will have live coverage of two women’s hockey games between Team USA and Team Canada in preparation for the Sochi Games. The first matchup between Team USA and Team Canada will take place on Friday, December 20 at 8 p.m. ET at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D. The two squads will face off once more on Saturday, December 28 at 4 p.m. ET at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn.

The rivalry in women’s hockey between the U.S. and Canada is one of the most heated in sports, and has been a fixture at the Games since women’s hockey was added to the Olympic program at the 1998 Nagano Games. The Americans defeated the Canadians 3-1 in Nagano to win the first-ever Olympic gold medal in women’s hockey. The two teams have competed in the gold medal game in three out of four Olympics, including the 2010 Vancouver Games, when Team Canada skated away with a 2-0 victory.

SPEED SKATING

NBC and NBCSN will combine to provide 7½ hours of live Trials coverage of men’s and women’s speed skating from the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns, Utah. Coverage begins on NBCSN on Friday, December 27 at 8 p.m. ET with the men’s 5000m and women’s 3000m events.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Shani Davis will highlight NBC’s speed skating coverage, which includes the men’s and women’s 500m at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, December 28, and the men’s and women’s 1000m at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, December 29. Davis begins his quest for his third straight Olympic gold medal in the 1000m after standing atop the podium in Torino and Vancouver.

Coverage shifts back to NBCSN on Tuesday, December 31 at 6 p.m. ET with the men’s and women’s 1500m, and concludes with the men’s 10,000m and women’s 5000m on NBCSN on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at 5 p.m. ET.

SHORT TRACK

Two-time Olympic medalist and 500m world record holder J.R. Celski headlines NBC and NBCSN’s 5½ hours of live Trials coverage of men’s and women’s short track from the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns, Utah. Celski broke the world record in the men’s 500m last year, and aims to build off of his bronze medals in the men’s 1500m and 5000m relay from the 2010 Vancouver Games.

NBCSN kicks off short track coverage on Friday, January 3, 2014, at 8 p.m. ET with the men’s and women’s 1500m events. Coverage continues on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 4 p.m. ET on NBCSN with the men’s and women’s 500m, and concludes on NBC on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at 4 p.m. ET with the men’s and women’s 1000m.
