Here’s a press release from NBC Sports crowing about the ratings for last night’s regular season opener between the New Orleans Saints and the Green Bay Packers, a track meet that ended with the defending Super Bowl champs winning over the Super Bowl Champs from two seasons ago, 42-34 and the game was decided on the last play.
The game received a 17.2 rating with a 28 share. It’s the second highest overnight rating for a primetime game in 13 years and it’s the 2nd highest primetime regular season kickoff game. The ratings are just below the Denver Broncos-Miami Dolphins game on Monday Night Football on ABC in 1998. Last night’s rating is 3% below last year’s kickoff game which pitted New Orleans against Minnesota at the Superdome.
NBC has the particulars in its press release, but it’s amazing to see that fans were hungry for football once again.
