Lindsey Vonn Joins NBC’s Olympics Coverage

Well, you knew this was coming. Earlier this month, Olympic gold medalist skier Lindsey Vonn withdrew from the 2014 Sochi Olympics citing a knee injury which wasn’t healing as quickly as she had hoped.

This put a big dent in NBC’s promotions as the Peacock was relying on her as a draw to its primetime coverage. And while Vonn had said she would not go to Sochi, it appears that she will keep that pledge and give her analysis on the Olympics from NBC World Headquarters in New York.

She’ll join the Today show during the 17 Days of Glory and also provide her thoughts on skiing on NBC Sports from New York.

Here’s the NBC announcement.

NEW YORK – January 27, 2014 — Gold medal alpine skier Lindsey Vonn will join NBC as an Olympic Correspondent for the TODAY show and NBC Sports during the 2014 Winter Olympics. In her new role, Vonn will report daily from the U.S. for TODAY, and she will contribute to NBC Sports Olympic coverage. In her first interview since deciding to withdraw from the Sochi Olympics, Vonn will appear on TODAY tomorrow, Tuesday, January 28 to discuss her role at NBC and give an update on her training and rehabilitation since her announcement. She will cover how the athletes prepare physically and mentally for the Games, and she will share some of her favorite memories. After the official start of the Olympics, she will continue her reporting for TODAY and NBC Sports from the U.S.

During the Games, fans and viewers who visit Facebook.com/NBCOlympics will have the opportunity to ask Vonn questions directly in real time. The timing of this Facebook chat will be announced at a later date.
