Yahoo and NBC Sports Team Up for Two New Programs

Last year, Yahoo and NBC Sports announced a digital partnership which would include the exchange of talent and also content sharing. Today, we have the announcement of two new shows that will air on NBC Sports Network and will also stream live on both Yahoo.com and NBCSports.com. This will give NBC Sports Network some fresh shows. It also provides both Yahoo and NBCSports.com with new content as well.

The first show announced is SportsDash with Yahoo Sports. This will premiere on August 19 and air at noon ET. Co-hosted by former Crossover personality Dave Briggs and Carolyn Manno, the show will address the day’s topics utilizing Yahoo Sports Trends, social media, reports, breaking news and storytelling. In addition to Briggs and Manno, Yahoo personalities Adrian Wojnaroski, Pat Forde and Dan Wetzel along with the polarizing NBCSports columnist Joe Posnanski will be on the show in various appearances. This show replaces “The Box Score” which is the Dan Patrick Show’s complimentary show and an outdoors program. And a digital complimentary program will stream on Yahoo, NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports Live Extra app immediately following the NBC Sports Network airing.

The other show is Fantasy Football Live-Thursday Night which will be a spinoff of Yahoo’s popular Fantasy Football Live program that streams every Sunday night. This will be hosted by Erik Kuselias (??) with various analysts including Shaun King and Brad Evans. This will air at 6:30 p.m. ET beginning on August 1. The digital show will stream at 7 p.m. on Yahoo and NBCSports.com and hosted by Melanie Collins.

Here’s the official press release.

Both Programs to Combine Yahoo! Sports & NBC Sports Personalities

STAMFORD, Conn. – July 30, 2013 – As an extension of their strategic alliance, Yahoo! Sports and NBC Sports Group announced today that they are launching two new programs in August that will air across television and digital platforms, and feature personalities from each company.

  • SportsDash with Yahoo! Sports will utilize an innovative digital media wall to aggregate and display fans’ sentiments and interest based around Yahoo! Sports Trends. The technology will integrate and analyze real-time signals from multiple sources, including Yahoo Search, Twitter and Facebook activity, to determine what stories, highlights and personalities are accelerating with fans in the moment. It debuts August 19.
  • Fantasy Football Live—Thursday Night! will combine the best of both companies’ fantasy football expertise, including unique metrics from Yahoo! Sports’ leading fantasy football platform, and full integration with NBC Sports’ premiere fantasy sports information site, Rotoworld.com. It debuts this Thursday night, August 1.

“We are very excited to extend our relationship with NBC Sports in an innovative way that combines the best of broadcast and digital media,” said Kenneth Fuchs, vice president of Yahoo! Global Media and head of Yahoo! Sports and Games. “Bringing Fantasy Football Live to Thursday nights – on both NBC Sports and Yahoo! Sports platforms – will give millions of fantasy players an edge heading into the Thursday night game and the weekend. And SportsDash is really by the fans and for the fans — a daily pulse on the stories, highlights, and news driving their conversations – online and on-air.”

“Given the digital success we’ve already experienced with Yahoo! Sports, we are thrilled to be extending our strategic alliance to new heights with, not one, but two new programs that cut across both linear and digital,” said Rick Cordella, SVP & GM, Digital Media, NBC Sports Group. “The weekly program will tap into our combined fantasy football assets that are second-to-none in the space, providing viewers with unparalleled analysis. SportsDash will use cutting-edge technology to identify the hottest topics in sports, and then will tap into our combined deep roster of experts and insiders to bring viewers closer those stories.”
