TNT To Air Turner Sports’ 1,000th NBA Playoff Game on Wednesday

Turner Sports came in to grab the NBA cable package from ESPN and USA in 1984-85 and ever since, it has been a major part of the league’s growth and popularity. It’s to the point where TNT is now the Network of Record for the NBA over any of the current TV partners. The games used to be on TBS, then switched to TNT starting in 1988-89 and for a while in the 1990’s, both TBS and TNT were the cable homes of the NBA before ESPN came back in 2002. Turner Sports’ 1,000 NBA Playoff game will air on Wednesday as the Memphis Grizzlies take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. Dick Stockton and the Czar of the Telestrator, Mike Fratello will team up to call the game. Although you would think Turner would send either Marv Albert or Kevin Harlan for this milestone, but they’ve been assigned to other games as you’ll see.
