The Most Successful Franchises in NBA History

That have been a number of franchises within the NBA who have had some incredible success over the years. Whether it be the likes of the Chicago Bulls and of course the Boston Celtics. So where do these sides sit within the top five? As we look ahead to the NBA finals, in which betting on basketball continues to be popular, with the Golden State Warriors the most likely winners of the upcoming match up with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

5) San Antonio Spurs

Sitting in fifth is the San Antonio Spurs, who have had a vast amount of success since their inaugural year in 1976. In modern times they continue to be title contenders each year, so must now be entered into the elite category. They are an extremely consistent side, which is why they have also had a lot of success. This includes four conference titles in 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007. The San Antonio Spurs also have four NBA titles in 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007. Three of the sides legendary players include George Gervin, Tim Duncan and of course David Robinson.

4) Detroit Pistons

In at number four is the Detroit Pistons, formally known as the Fort Wayne Pistons. There inaugural year was 1948 and they are another side who have had a number of dominating periods. This is shown in the fact they have seven conference titles from 1955, 1956, 1988-90, 2004 and the most recent in 2005. They can also back this up with three NBA titles in 1989, 1990 and 2004. The Detroit Pistons have had a large number of notable players that include the likes of Dave Bing, Joe Dumars and most recently Isiah Thomas.

3) Chicago Bulls

They sit at three thanks to the great Michael Jordan who helped lead them to six NBA titles in 1991-1993, 1996-1998. There inaugural year was 1966, but since Jordan, they have yet to reach those lofty heights again. They also have six conference title from the same years. Other notable players from the record breaking side are Dennis Rodman and Scottie Pippen.

2) Los Angeles Lakers

They could have sat at number one has they have been one of the most dominating sides for lengthy periods. There inaugural year was 1948 and they continue to be a hugely successful franchise to this day. This includes housing 16 Hall of Famers that includes the great Kobe Bryant. Other notable players include Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. In their incredible history they have 31 conference titles with the recent ones coming between 2008 and 2010. The Los Angeles Lakers can also back this up with 16 NBA titles coming between 1949 and the most recent in 2010.

1) Boston Celtics

Finally in at number one is the Boston Celtics, whose inaugural year was back in 1946. Their record through the years is remarkable, with two top five players of all time in Bill Russell and Larry Bird, as well as another 23 Hall of famers. They have more NBA titles than any other franchise, which is why they must sit at number one. This being 17 including the dominating period between 1959 and 1966. The Boston Celtics also have 21 conference titles to date, with the last coming in 2010.
