TBS Has A Doubleheader To Close Out The Regular Season

MLB on TBS has a Sunday afternoon doubleheader to finish out the regular season. It will carry Red Sox-Yankees at Yankee Stadium. And once again, Matt Vasgersian of MLB Network does double duty calling the Saturday game for Fox and the Sunday game for TBS. He did this last week for the Tampa Bay-Boston series. With Ernie Johnson, Jr. continuing to take care of family matters, it’s safe to say that we’ll see him again next Friday probably calling the Yankees American League Division Series for TBS.

I did mention that TBS was carrying a doubleheader on Sunday and the late game will be San Francisco at Arizona with Steve Physioc coming in to call his first game of the season for the former Superstation. Interesting hires at the end of the season for TBS.

Here’s the press release.

MLB on TBS Heads into the Postseason with a Special Doubleheader Featuring Red Sox @ Yankees (1 p.m. ET); Giants @ Diamondbacks (4 p.m. ET)

“Sunday MLB on TBS” will conclude its regular season schedule on September 25 with a special doubleheader featuring two divisional match-ups. A half-hour edition of MLB on Deck will preview the day’s action at 12:30 p.m. (ET) with Matt Winer (host) in studio alongside Dennis Eckersley (analyst), Cal Ripken (analyst) and David Wells (analyst). The pre-game show will be followed at 1 p.m. (ET) with the most storied rivalries in sports when Derek Jeter and the AL East Division Champion New York Yankees host David Ortiz and the Boston Red Sox at 1 p.m. (ET) at Yankee Stadium. The Red Sox are attempting to clinch the AL Wild Card during the stretch run of the season. Play-by-play announcer Matt Vasgersian will call the game alongside analyst Ron Darling in the broadcast booth.

The second game of the day will feature a showdown between National League West rivals when Pablo Sandoval and the San Francisco Giants visit Justin Upton and the Arizona Diamondbacks at 4 p.m. (ET) at Chase Field in Phoenix. The Giants’ ace Tim Lincecum (13-13) is scheduled to pitch against the Diamondbacks’ probable starter Josh Collmenter (9-10). Play-by-play announcer Steve Physioc will call the game alongside analyst John Smoltz.

Beginning on September 30, TBS will begin televising the 2011 MLB Postseason for the fifth consecutive year. The network will provide exclusive coverage of all four MLB League Division Series (ALDS & NLDS) and the National League Championship Series (NLCS).

TBS has served as the exclusive home of Major League Baseball’s Division Series (DS) and one League Championship Series (LCS) since 2007, has broadcasted MLB games for more than 30 years and was home of the Atlanta Braves from 1977-2007.
