TBS Airs Rays-Red Sox on Sunday

On the next to last weekend of regular season play, TBS heads up to Boston to air the Tampa Bay Rays-Boston Red Sox contest as the American League Wild Card race is tightening up. With the Red Sox losing to Tampa Bay on Saturday, it means that the Rays are just three games in back of Boston. Matt Vasgersian who called Saturday’s game for Fox, stays in Boston to get a paycheck from TBS. I don’t I’ve ever seen that, someone calling two games from the same series for different networks.

And Fang’s Bites fave Jaime Maggio will be the field reporter for TBS on Sunday. We have the press release for you. And I’m still waiting on the announcing assignments for TBS’ first doubleheader next Sunday.

The Race for the Postseason Heats up on “Sunday MLB on TBS” with a Crucial AL East Match-up Between the Tampa Bay Rays @ Boston Red Sox

TBS’ Brian Anderson’s full interview with Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun will be featured during the MLB on Deck pre-game show at 1 p.m. (ET)

“Sunday MLB on TBS” continues on September 18 with an American League match-up between two division rivals and Postseason contenders when the Boston Red Sox host the Tampa Bay Rays at 1:30 p.m. (ET). Leading off the day’s action will be a special half-hour edition of MLB on Deck at 1 p.m. (ET) with Matt Winer (host) in studio alongside Dennis Eckersley (analyst), Cal Ripken (analyst) and David Wells (analyst). The show will feature TBS’ announcer Brian Anderson’s full interview with Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers who discuss the team’s Postseason prospects and Fielder’s impending free agency.

Following the pre-game show, David Ortiz and the Red Sox will host Evan Longoria and the Rays at 1 p.m. (ET). Recent 200-game winner Tim Wakefield (7-6) is scheduled to start for the Red Sox against the Rays’ starter David Price (12-12). Play-by-play announcer Matt Vasgersian will call the game alongside analyst John Smoltz in the broadcast booth with Jaime Maggio (reporter) providing updates throughout the game.

Beginning on September 30, TBS will begin televising the 2011 MLB Postseason for the fifth consecutive year. The network will provide exclusive coverage of all four MLB League Division Series (ALDS & NLDS) and the National League Championship Series (NLCS).
