BREAKING NEWS: St. Louis Cardinals To Return To KMOX-AM

The St. Louis Cardinals will announce later today that the team will return to its original radio home, CBS-owned KMOX-AM. The Cardinals left KMOX, its home of 51 years, in 2006 to go to KTRS and take a small 50% financial stake in the station. However, fans throughout the Midwest complained they could no longer hear the Redbirds as KMOX has a 50,000 watt signal and can be heard in 38 states and in Canada while KTRS’ signal is very weak.

This summer, the team entered into a very competitive round of bidding between incumbent KTRS, an FM sports station and KMOX for a new contract and apparently, the Cardinals decided to go with tradition and return to KMOX after five seasons.

Dan Caesar of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the Cardinals have returned to their broadcast roots.

KMOV-TV in St. Louis says a formal announcement will be made by KMOX and the Cardinals at 5 p.m. Central time.

We’ll have more on this as the story unfolds.
