Inside Mad Men: Season 7, Episode 2 — “A Day’s Work”

In this episode, there are quite a few things going on.

Don is still unemployed and he’s asked his secretary Dawn to secretly keep him informed on what’s going on. In addition, he begins making feelers about working for other firms.

Sally finds out Don no longer works at Sterling Cooper & Partners through a confused Lou Avery and she makes an veiled point to him to tell the truth. She yells to him about seeing him bang Sylvia. Don finally opens up to Sally. He mischievously suggests a dine-and-dash, but doesn’t follow through on it.

As Anthony Crupi at Adweek says, Peggy now dresses like Velma from Scooby Doo and steals her secretary’s Valentine’s Day flowers thinking they’re from Ted. And when Peggy asks her to throw them out, Shirley tells her they’re from her fiancée causing Peggy to go all Wu Tang.

Pete Campbell is banging his realtor Bonnie, but not exactly when he wants.

The East Coast and West Coast offices of Sterling Cooper & Partners are having trouble communicating.

Bert Cooper has problems with Dawn now fronting the office. Joan is finding people are dumping her with their secretarial problems, but Jim Cutler makes her an intriguing offer to move her upstairs and she accepts. Dawn takes Joan’s office.

Matthew Weiner, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, John Slattery, Christina Hendricks and Jon Hamm talk about the episode.

Here’s the scene where Peggy goes all-Wu Tang on Shirley for no reason.

Let’s go over the fashion and style in this episode. Costume designer Janie Bryant talks about dressing Joan for Valentine’s Day. Ellen Freund, Property Manager of Mad Men, goes over the Valentine’s Day floral arrangements for the episode. Theraesa Rivers, Hair Department Head discusses Shirley’s hairstyle and Lana Horochowski, the Makeup Department Head reviews her makeup.

And here’s the always cryptic promo for next week’s episode.

Mad Men airs Sundays on AMC at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
