Inside Mad Men: Season 7, Episode 10 — “The Forecast”

Don gets awakened by Melody at his apartment. She’s selling it. And she kicks Don out so she can do so.

Joan gets a collect call from her mother while she’s on the West Coast. She tries to talk to her son, but the connection is lost.

Don enters Roger Sterling’s office and tells him that he’s been ordered to make a statement about the future of the company to McCann Erickson’s retreat at the Bahamas. Don has a beer in his hand. Roger assigns Don to write the statement.

Joan walks into Sterling Cooper’s West Coast office and sees Lou Avery who’s already going out to lunch.

Don is asked to sign off on a peanut butter cookie campaign by Peggy.

Lou’s secretary tells Joan that he’s been trying to get a job from Hanna-Barbera, the cartoon company. She sees who she thinks is the client, but finds Lou bringing in the client. The guy named Richard who Joan thinks is the client actually went to the wrong office and is looking for the optometrist. They flirt.

Sally Draper and Betty are talking about her summer trip to Washington, D.C. Sally and Betty argue.

Melody tells Don she had trouble selling the apartment because of its emptiness and due to the red wine stain on the carpet. Don tells her a lot of great things happened there. Melody said she couldn’t tell.

Joan sleeps with Richard the near-sighted guy. She tells him she has to leave for New York the following the morning. He tells her he’s divorced and she tells him she is as well. Richard appeals to Joan to stay in Cali. Joan says she needs to work and that it’s the job she’s always wanted.

Don sees Meredith who helps him run interference on Roger. Don sees Ted Chaough who seems to be no longer burnt out. Don brings him a donut. Ted says Roger asked him to write the statement and got out of it. Ted says he wants to land a pharmaceutical account.

Joan hears from Richard who’s in NYC. She agrees to meet him at a nearby restaurant.

Meanwhile Don is getting candy out of the vending machine. Pete Campbell tells Don that there’s a problem with the Peanut Butter cookie account. Peggy is pissed. Pete threatens to fire people. Don says no.

Oh my god, creepy Glenn is back. She enters Sally’s home and Paula his girlfriend is with him. Betty sees him and doesn’t recognize him, but after realizing it’s him, it seems she still has a crush on him. Glenn informs her and Sally that he is going to Vietnam. Sally is pissed and runs off. Betty is more impressed now. Glenn wishes Betty goodbye.

Don is thinking about Roger’s statement to McCann Erickson. Mathis comes into Don’s office and asks what he should do to make things better with the client. Don tells him what he said to Lucky Strike so many years and sends him out.

At dinner, Richard tells Joan about the development of a golf course and how some hippies ran onto the course. Joan says she roots for the underdog. Richard asks Joan to tell him the truth. She reveals that she has a son.

Sally tries to call Glenn to say goodbye. She gets his mother. Sally wants to apologize. She cries to Glenn’s mother.

Richard tries to do the freakdance with Joan at his hotel. She tells him she need to make a call to the babysitter. Joan tries to convince her to stay until midnight. Richard says says he can’t do this and is disappointed. Joan says she’s disappointed. He doesn’t want to be in a relationship that involves kids. Joan walks out.

Peggy says Ted asked her to fill out her own performance review. She asks Don to do it. Don asks what Peggy wants. She wants to be the first female Creative Director at the company. She wants to land a big account, create a new catchphrase, become famous and create something memorable. Don laughs. Petty tells Don to write down his dreams so she can shit on them and walks out. Way to go, Peggy.

Joan’s babysitter comes to the apartment as Sesame Street plays on TV and Joan is pissed that she’s late. Joan who’s pissed from the night before tells her that she’s ruining her life. Joan’s son says goodbye and she stops and says bye back.

Mathis uses Don’s joke to Lucky Strike to the Peanut Butter cookie execs. Everyone is pissed. Oh Mathis.

Mathis walks into Don’s office and tells him the joke didn’t work. After blaming Don for his failure, Don fires him.

Joan is notified that Richard is waiting for him. Joan sarcastically tells him that she’s sending his son away. Richard apologizes to her saying he wants to be a part of her life. Joan tells him she’s been divorced twice and lives with her mom. Richard says he’s buying property in New York and wants all of them to visit.

Creepy Glenn stops by to visit Betty. He knows Sally is gone. He asks for a beer. Glenn explains to Betty why he’s going to Vietnam. He tries to kiss Betty. She tells him to stop. She tells him that she’s married. Glenn tries to tell her that he flunked out of school so he enlisted in the army. She puts his hand on her cheek. He leaves, but Betty tells him he’s going to make it. Whether he’s 8 or 18, Glenn is always going to be creepy. Betty and Glenn are going to run off to get married at the end of the series, I just know it.

Don is having dinner with Sally and her friends. He asks what they want to be. One wants to be a Senator, another wants to be a United Nations interpreter, another flirts with Don. Sally rolls her eyes as first she sees Glenn with Betty and this with Don. As Sally gets on the bus to Washington, DC, she says she wants to get as far away from Don and Betty as possible so she can be a different person. Don tells her that he’s her father and she’s not as different from her parents as she thinks.

Betty’s sons want to watch the Brady Bunch. She throws away one of their toys.

Don walks into his apartment and Melody has a couple signing the papers. She tells him that the next step is find him an apartment.
