John Oliver’s FIFA Takedowns

Since John Oliver went to HBO last year, the Last Week Tonight monologues have become some of the best 10-15 minute segments on television. Oliver’s subjects have included militarization of police departments, pay equality, chicken farming, Edward Snowden among others. But one of his recurring topics has been FIFA and it’s now-disgraced President Sepp Blatter.

Thanks to HBO, Last Week Tonight archives each of his monologues at YouTube so we can look back at his topics.

Oliver’s first FIFA takedown was in June 2014 just as the World Cup in Brazil was to begin and he discussed country’s discontent with the event plus it might have been the first time you heard about corruption within the organization.

But that was just the tip of the iceberg between Oliver and FIFA. Just a week before the election that gave Blatter his 5th term as President, Oliver talked about the vote and the corruption.

And if you think that was good, just this past Sunday, Oliver did his third and best takedown of FIFA and Blatter. John said he would wear an ugly Adidas shoe, eat items off McDonald’s Dollar Menu and drink a Bud Light Lime beer if Blatter was ousted.

Well, now that Blatter is out, we want to see Oliver drink a gross Bud Light Lime. You know that Sepp Blatter’s resignation will be front and center this Sunday.

Last Week Tonight airs Sundays at 11 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
