Armen Keteyian Returns To HBO’s Real Sports

Award-winning investigative reporter Armen Keteyian is going back to HBO’s Real Sports to do the hard-hitting features that he became known for from 1997 through 2006. For the last five years, Keteyian has been the Chief Investigative Reporter for CBS News and he’ll continue to report for CBS. However, Armen now will have the freedom to do features for HBO Sports. TEN-TIME EMMY®-WINNING JOURNALIST ARMEN KETEYIAN REJOINS HBO’S REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL

NEW YORK, April 8, 2011 – Ten-time Emmy®-winning journalist Armen Keteyian, who has spent the past five years exclusively at CBS News, is returning to the award-winning monthly HBO Sports magazine program REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL as a correspondent, it was announced today by Rick Bernstein, executive producer, HBO Sports.

“Armen is a world-class journalist who made significant contributions to REAL SPORTS for almost ten years,” said Bernstein.  “We are thrilled to have him returning to the show.”

Keteyian will continue in his role as chief investigative correspondent for CBS News, reporting primarily for “The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric,” and resume work on REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL with the edition debuting April 19.  Prior to working at CBS News for the past five years, Keteyian was a special features reporter for CBS Sports, reported from the sidelines for “The NFL Today,” covered the NCAA basketball tournament, anchored coverage of the Tour de France and worked as a network correspondent for ABC News.

From December 1997 to March 2006, Keteyian contributed numerous distinguished, groundbreaking stories to REAL SPORTS, two of which captured the Sports Emmy® for Outstanding Sports Journalism.  In April 1999, he received a Sports Emmy® for the segment on the public financing of the Arizona Diamondbacks ballpark; in April 2002, he received his second Sports Emmy® for a revealing profile of high school basketball standout Amar’e Stoudemire, who now stars for the New York Knicks.  Overall, Keteyian has won ten Emmys®.  He also served as co-producer of the critically acclaimed HBO Sports documentary “City on Fire:  The Story of the ‘68 Detroit Tigers,” which debuted in July 2002.

Keteyian has also written or co-written nine books, including actor-comedian  George Lopez’s autobiography “Why You Crying?,” a New York Times bestseller.

REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL has won 21 Sports Emmy® Awards since its debut in April 1995.  The show has been honored with a Sports Emmy® for Outstanding Sports Journalism 13 times, and is the only TV sports program to receive the prestigious Columbia University-duPont Award.  Gumbel is the host; correspondents include Bernard Goldberg, Andrea Kremer, Mary Carillo, Frank Deford and Jon Frankel.

The executive producers of REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL are Ross Greenburg and Rick Bernstein; Kirby Bradley is senior producer.
