Golf Channel Airs All Four Rounds Of The 2011 LPGA Championship

This week is the second major of the LPGA calendar, the LPGA Championship held in upstate New York. The LPGA Championship is being held at the Locust Hill Country Club in Pittsford, NY starting this Thursday. Golf Channel will have live four round coverage. We have the particulars of what you’ll see on Golf Channel and the announcing team which is led by Terry Gannon and Judy Rankin.

Golf Channel to Air Live, Four-Round Coverage of the LPGA Championship

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (June 21, 2011) – Golf Channel returns to the Rochester-area this week to deliver live, four-round coverage of the LPGA’s second major of the year, the LPGA Championship.

Defending champion and Rolex Rankings No. 2 Cristie Kerr will attempt to take home back-to-back titles following a record-breaking 12-stroke victory last year at Locust Hill Country Club. Still seeking her first win in 2011, Kerr has recorded three consecutive runner-up finishes leading up to this week. Headlining the field alongside Kerr include No. 1 Yani Tseng, 2011 Kraft Nabisco champion Stacy Lewis, 2010 U.S. Women’s Open champion Paula Creamer and LPGA stars Suzann Pettersen, Michelle Wie, Jiyai Shin, Ai Miyazato, Morgan Pressel and Karrie Webb. Also in the field this week is 16-year-old Alexis Thompson, who is competing on a sponsor’s exemption. Altogether, the tournament boasts one of the top fields of the year, with 14 of the top-15 in the Rolex Rankings scheduled to compete this week.

Golf Channel’s coverage of the LPGA Championship will air live Thursday-Friday from 12:30-2:30 p.m. ET, followed by live, weekend coverage from 4-7 p.m. ET. Terry Gannon and Hall-of-Famer Judy Rankin will call the action from the booth. Tom Abbott will report from an on-course tower, with Jane Crafter, Val Skinner and Jerry Foltz reporting from the course. Rich Lerner will conduct post-round interviews and, as show host, will deliver his signature essays during live coverage.

Produced in high definition, Golf Channel’s tournament coverage will feature several of the network’s signature production elements, including conducting on-course interviews with players as they are walking the fairways (Walk and Talks) during all four rounds.

Golf Channel is in its the second year of a 10-year partnership with the LPGA Tour as the exclusive cable home. In 2010, the network introduced and featured several unique production elements to enhance the telecasts and showcase the personalities of LPGA Tour players, most notably fitting players with microphones during competition. “Mic’d Up” now also is featured on PGA TOUR telecasts.
