Did Fox Really Hire Norm MacDonald for the US Open Starting in 2015????

This was reported during Fox Sports Live on Sunday night’s edition. It was more of “a mention and if you blinked, you missed it,” kind of thing.

It was mentioned that comedian Norm MacDonald was hired by Fox Sports for the U.S. Open golf tournament starting in 2015. MacDonald is a big golf fan and tweets his thoughts on the sport during big tournaments. He has made appearances on Golf Channel in the past, so this is not as big a stretch as it appears on the outset.

However, there is no press release. There is nothing being reported in the normal golf publications and blogs so I’m not sure if this is true.

A text to a Fox Sports spokesman has gone unanswered at this point. Fox is definitely thinking outside the box if this hiring is indeed true. But I can’t imagine Norm being a course reporter or a tower announcer, but you just never know.

MacDonald has some sports in his background, albeit from comedy. He hosted the Sports Show for Comedy Central, but it only lasted for about 20 minutes.

We’ll continue to monitor to see what comes from this.

UPDATE, 8/26/2013, 7:15 a.m.: Only turned out to be a suggestion. That’s what happens when you don’t have access to a DVR to check nor closed captioning. Here’s the video. I’ll stand down.

Would have been interesting to see this become reality.
