American League Championship Series Game 3 Draws Decently for Fox

The American League Championship Series drew some decent numbers for Fox. With a pitching duel between the Red Sox’ John Lackey and Detroit’s Justin Bieb… Verlander, Fox drew a 3.7/8 for ALCS Game 3. That resulted in an average audience of 5.6 million viewers. That’s up 37% from last year’s NCLS Game 3 (2.7/6 and 3.9 million viewers) that aired on Fox.

Through three games, Fox is averaging a 4.4/8 and just under 7 million viewers for the ALCS. That’s up 26% from last year’s three game average for the National League Championship Series.

Locally, Detroit topped all local markets with a big 26.7/49 with Boston in second garnering a 20.8/42. Providence was in third with 18.6/34. Hartford, CT and Fort Myers, FL round out the top five rated local markets.

Game 3 +Up 37% Over Last Year’s NLCS

Detroit, MI — Game 3 of the American League Championship Series proved to be one of the most spectacular pitching duels this postseason and baseball fans took notice. Yesterday’s dazzling performance by Detroit’s Justin Verlander and Boston’s John Lackey, in which the Red Sox took a 2-1 series lead, delivered a 3.7/8 national household rating and 5.6 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. ALCS Game 3 is up a substantial +37% compared to last year’s 2.7/6 (3.9 million viewers) for Game 3 of the National League Championship Series on FOX between the Giants and Cardinals.

Through three games, the 2013 ALCS on FOX is averaging a 4.4/8 (6.9 million viewers), up +26% over last year’s 3.5/6 (5.4 million viewers) for the NLCS on FOX. The network’s 4.4/8 three-game average rating is FOX’s best for a League Championship Series since 2009’s ALCS featuring the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels (5.3/10; 8.4 million viewers).

Detroit lead all markets last night, posting an impressive 26.7/49 followed by Boston’s 20.8/42.  Providence was next with an 18.6/34, followed by Hartford (11.9/23), Ft. Myers (6.2/11), Tampa (5.4/11), Greensboro (5.1/10), Cleveland (4.6/10), West Palm Beach (4.6/9) and St. Louis (4.2/9).

ALCS on FOX coverage resumes today with Game 4 from Comerica Park with beginning at 7:30 PM ET.
