One aspect of the 2013 World Series is that it has won every night for Fox. This is particularly true for Game 4 of the Fall Classic on Sunday which is a very competitive night on both broadcast and cable. The game drew a 9.4 rating with a 15 share and a series high 16 million viewers. That figure is up 6% from last year’s 8.9/14 and 3% from 2013’s 15.5 million viewers.
According to Fox, it’s the highest-rated and most-watched Game 4 of the World Series on Fox since 2009 when the Yankees-Phillies series drew an astounding 13.5/22 and 22.8 million viewers.
MLB says it’s the most-watched baseball game since Game 7 of the 2011 World Series between Texas and St. Louis.
The World Series is averaging 8.4/14 and 14 million viewers through 4 games. That is 11% better than last year’s 7.6/12 and 12.7 million viewers. But the 8.4 rating is even with the 2010 World Series between Texas and San Francisco.
This is still on-pace to be the second lowest-rated World Series in TV history.
And locally, the ratings in Boston and St. Louis are down considerably compared to previous Fall Classics.
Here’s the MLB press release.
GAME FOUR DRAWS 2013 WORLD SERIES HIGH 16 MILLION VIEWERS
Most-Watched Baseball Game Since Game 7 of 2011 World Series; Ratings Up +11% Through Four Games, Best Since 2009
Game 3 was the first World Series game ever to end on an obstruction call. Game 4 was the first World Series game ever to end on a pickoff. No one knows what the Cardinals and Red Sox will do next, but more viewers are tuning in to find out.
Game 4 on Sunday night – typically the most competitive night of the week in primetime television – drew a World Series-high 16 million viewers, making it the most-watched baseball game since Game 7 of the 2011 World Series, based on Nielsen data. FOX once again won the night in primetime against all competition, something it has done all four nights of the World Series.
Overall, the 2013 World Series is averaging an 8.4 household rating making it the highest-rated World Series through four games since 2009. The 8.4 household rating and average audience of 14 million viewers through Game 4 both represent +11% increases over last year through the comparable coverage.
Game 4 drew a massive 46.7 rating in St. Louis, while in Boston the game drew a 34.7 rating. In both markets, 69% of available TVs were tuned to the game at its peak.
With the World Series now guaranteed to go at least six games for only the third time since 2004, the pivotal Game 5 is scheduled to begin tonight at 8:00pm ET/7:00pm CT on FOX.
That’s all for now.
