2013 American League Championship Series Ends on an Up Note for Fox

The Boston Red Sox clinched the American League Championship Series and the win in Game 6 steered the city to its best ratings of the series. In addition, Fox saw a 20% from last year’s National League Championship Series Game 6 which aired on Fox.

Saturday night’s ratings resulted in a 5.5 national rating with a 10 share. Fox saw an average audience of 9 million viewers. Last year when Fox aired the NLCS, the Game 6 ratings resulted in a 4.6/7 and 7.6 million viewers.

Fox says the numbers for the ALCS Game 6 are the highest for an LCS game dating back to 2010 when the NLCS Game 6 saw a 6.7/12.

Locally, Boston topped the local markets with its highest ratings for the series at a 31.9/55. Detroit was next with a drop from previous nights, 27.5/49. Providence-New Bedford was third with 27.6/46 with Hartford and St. Louis round out the top five.

ALCS Average Up 23% Over 2012 NLCS; Best LCS Average Since 2010

Boston, MA – Last night’s dramatic Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on FOX delivered a 5.5/10 national household rating (9.0 million viewers), according to Nielsen Media Research. Last night’s game was up 20% over last year’s 4.6/7 (7.6 million viewers) for Game 6 of the National League Championship Series on FOX and out-rated last year’s decisive NLCS Game 7 by +12% (5.5/10 vs. 4.9/7).

Saturday night’s series clincher marks FOX’s best rating for an LCS game since 2010’s NLCS Game 6 (6.7/12 – 11.6 million).

ALCS Game 6 also scored with key demographics including Men 18-34 (+21%; 2.3 vs. 1.9), Men 18-49 (+16%; 2.9 vs. 2.5) and Adults 18-49 (+5%; 2.3 vs. 2.2) over NLCS Game 6.

Last night’s broadcast grew steadily throughout the night peaking with a 6.5/12 (10.7 million viewers) from 11:00 -11:30 PM, as Shane Victorino’s grand slam propelled the Red Sox to the American League pennant.

Game 6 of the 2013 ALCS is also +20% better from 2011’s 4.6/8 (7.7 million viewers) for the ALCS on FOX featuring the Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers and ranks as the network’s highest-rated and most-watched Saturday night since January 2013.

The complete 2013 six-game ALCS on FOX averaged a 4.9/9 (7.7 million viewers), up 23% over last year’s 4.0/7 (6.5 million viewers) for the seven-game NLCS on FOX and FOX’s best LCS average since 2010’s NLCS 5.5/10 (9.1 million viewers). When comparing the averages through six games of each series, the 2013 ALCS on FOX strongly out-rated the 2012 NLCS by +26% in household rating (4.9 vs. 3.9), +41% in Men 18-34 (2.4 vs. 1.7) and +33% (2.8 vs 2.1)  in Men 18-49.

Over the entire 2013 ALCS, the important Men 18-34 demo average rose significantly over 2012, up 33% (2.4 vs. 1.8) and other key demos also notched double digit increases over last year’s NLCS including Men 18-49 (+27%; 2.8 vs. 2.2), Adults 18-34 (+13%; 1.8 vs 1.6) and Adults 18-49 (+17%; 2.1 vs 2.8).

Boston led all markets with a 31.9/55. Detroit delivered a 27.5/46.  Providence (27.6/46), Hartford (16.5/29), St. Louis (9.7/19), Fort Myers (8.1/14), Norfolk (7.1/12), Sacramento (7.1/14), Tampa (7.0/13) and Greensboro (6.9/11) round out the top ten markets for Saturday night’s broadcast.
