Sports Media Weekly Podcast No. 46 – Scott Ackerson, Fox Sports

The latest edition of the Sports Media Weekly podcast brings us closer to football season and today’s guest is the Executive Producer for Fox Sports, Scott Ackerson. Lots of good stuff from Scott, but before we get to that, Keith Thibault of Sports Media Journal and I went over the news of the week.

We talked about the arrest of Jay Mariotti and the lack of defense from his fellow reporters. Keith and I opined on Jason Whitlock, formerly of the Kansas City Star, going on a radio show and pretty much napalming everyone in his path.

We also talked about the unveiling of the announcers for the NFL on CBS, Westwood One Radio and Fox Sports. And we also looked at the reaction to my post on the Best Sports Announcers of All-Time.

As mentioned, our guest this week is Scott Ackerson of Fox Sports. In this segment, Keith and I asked him about what we’ll see on Fox NFL Sunday this season. We also asked Scott about what has made Fox NFL Sunday so successful and why it’s been the number one NFL pregame show for the last 16 seasons.

We also looked at the signing of Mike Pereira, former head of officiating for the NFL, as a rules analyst for Fox. And Scott told us of the excitement of having the Super Bowl on Fox this season.

A good podcast. You can find it on iTunes by doing a search for “Sports Media Journal” or listen to it right here.
