FOX NFL Insider Jay Glazer reported on possible punishment for Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin after Tomlin’s near-interference with a Baltimore Ravens kick returner this past Thursday:  “The Commissioner’s Office is going to come around on this tomorrow. Look, there are reports out there that they could lose draft picks. They’re not even talking about that. The Jets didn’t lose draft picks with the Sal Alosi incident a couple of years ago. Is he [Tomlin] going to get a hefty fine? Yes, he is going to get a hefty fine but here is what the world doesn’t know; the irony of all ironies on the day before this happened the NFL actually sent out a video to all head coaches saying, ‘listen, we’re going to warn you right now to stay off the white [line] on special teams plays.’ They actually flagged the Jets earlier in the week for the same thing, on a punt return. Obviously with the Steelers playing on Thursday, they didn’t watch the video on Wednesday.”

—————————————————————————

Jimmy Johnson on whether or not the Mike Tomlin sideline incident was intentional: “Only Mike knows what was in his head, but seeing the little smirk on his face I think it indicates that he looked at the jumbotron, he saw that it was just a reaction without thinking. I don’t think it’s a problem.”

FOX NFL Insider Jay Glazer gave viewers an update on the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin situation and when a ruling might be made:  “Incognito is basically a six-week suspension with four of those weeks paid.  He can go and try and get the other two weeks back but they’re going to have to make a decision again on him in two more weeks. Ted Wells, the independent investigator has met with Dolphins players, Dolphins officials, former Dolphins players and former Stanford players. He wants to go back around now and talk to Jonathan Martin one more time and really put his ruling in the next 10 days.”

—————————————————————————

Bradshaw on the Detroit Lions: “The Detroit Lions will win the north. The only problem I have is you’ve got to protect the football. They win football games, but I’m telling you right now, if you want to be a complete football team, you better protect that football like it’s a little baby. They don’t do it. Their coach, Jim Schwartz needs to emphasize that.”

—————————————————————————

Analyst Michael Strahan on what the biggest thing for the Arizona Cardinals is today when they play the Philadelphia Eagles: “The biggest thing for Arizona is going to be how Carson Palmer handles the pressure that the Eagles defense is going to bring to him. In the past when he’s had pressure, that’s when he hasn’t played so well.”

—————————————————————————

Analysts Michael Strahan and Jimmy Johnson on which coaches might be on the hot seat:

Johnson:  “Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak might be on the hottest seat because the owner might say, ‘hey, with your health problems, the way the team is playing, it might be time to make a change.’”

Strahan:  “Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan might be on the hot seat as well because when they’re not playing well, he seems to have problems with his quarterback and that’s a franchise type quarterback so you wonder who wins that battle.”

—————————————————————————

Glazer on John Fox’s condition following heart surgery: “He’s trying to return to the sidelines much sooner than expected. Initially, doctors told him even when he comes back they want him in the booth for at least a couple of weeks. I talked to Fox yesterday and he said he’s trying to push to go on the sidelines next week. He’s like a player, begging to get out there. He’s being stubborn about it, but it’s up to the doctors.”

—————————————————————————

Analyst Michael Strahan on the difference in the Carolina Panthers this year compared to in years past: “The thing with this team is that this team has always been close, almost about to win and then they lose it in the fourth quarter. This year has been different.”

Analyst Howie Long adds his thoughts on Panther’s quarterback Cam Newton: “Winning the close games at the end, making the good decisions, now he has to open it up a bit more. The biggest thing about Cam that’s been most impressive to me is he’s embracing the leadership and the maturity. That’s the big difference.”

—————————————————————————

Analyst Jimmy Johnson on what the Indianapolis Colts’ biggest problem might be:  “Don’t forget they lost Bruce Arians [former Colts offensive coordinator] who is doing a pretty good job with the Arizona Cardinals.”
