The Monday Links

Time to give you some links on this day after the Super Bowl. For the first time, I really feel that the day after the Super Bowl should be a holiday so we can recover after being up late.

First overnight ratings show that the Super Bowl had a 43.3 rating and a 63 share. That would be up 9% from last year.

From the Nation’s Newspaper, Michael Hiestand of USA Today says the Fox Super Bowl pregame show was a four hour promo for its primetime schedule. The USA Today Ad Meter has the Budweiser ad with the dalmatian training the Clydesdale as the top Super Bowl ad and I agree it was the best. And here are the ads ranked from top to bottom.

Newsday’s Neil Best says the word “Wow” was used quite often in the Fox Super Bowl broadcast. In his blog, Neil says he stopped by to visit with WFAN’s Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton this morning. And Neil has one thing he omitted from his Super Bowl review.

Tom Hoffarth of the Los Angeles Daily News writes in his Farther Off the Wall that there is a campaign to have the Monday after Super Bowl Sunday declared a national holiday.

David Scott of Boston Sports Media Watch has a recap of the Boston TV and radio postmortem last night.

As he mentioned in his blog last night, Pete Dougherty in the Albany (NY) Times Union says the Fox broadcast came up short.

But in an opposing view, Phil Mushnick of the New York Post says Fox got the Super Bowl right.

John Ryan of the San Jose Mercury News has some thoughts on the Big Game.

Mel Bracht of the Daily Oklahoman says the Super Bowl ads were a big hit.

Tom Jones of the St. Petersburg Times gives us the best and worst of the Super Bowl broadcast.

Chris Zelkovich of the Toronto Star says Fox avoided overhyping the game.

Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated gives his grades for the Super Bowl pregame and broadcast itself.

Ed Sherman of the Chicago Tribune gives his thoughts on the Fox broadcast.

Bob Wolfley of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel gives XLII sentiments on the Super Bowl.

Toni Fitzgerald from Media Life Magazine says the Super Bowl was a perfect ending to a great NFL season.

The Palm Beach Post’s Charles Elmore writes that Troy Aikman carried a rather weak Fox effort.

Brian Stelter of the New York Times says ESPN360 will be free for college students and military personnel.

Mitch Abramson of the New York Daily News says the daughter of ESPN’s Teddy Atlas is getting into the boxing business.

When the final overnight ratings for the Super Bowl come out sometime around noon Eastern Time, I’ll post them here.
