Monday Afternoon Mini-Update

This being the middle of summer, news is hard to come by, but just know that this week, golf’s 4th major, the PGA Championship will be played starting Thursday and we should start to hear from the networks on the NFL assignments for this season. But today, there’s not much as far as updates are concerned. I do give you a few links now.

Jim Williams in his Watch This! blog says FSN Bay Area and KNBR will be ready when Barry Bonds hits his 756th home run.

Paulsen in the Sports Media Watch blog links to a Sports Business Journal article tracking the coverage of ESPN’s SportsCenter and it appears that the lack of coverage of the NHL is a misconception.

Darren Rovell of CNBC.com looks at some of the t-shirts that have popped up in the wake of the Michael Vick dogfighting story.

In his Newsday blog, Neil Best notes that Tiger Woods won ESPN’s silly Who’s Now competition which was not a real competition, but something ESPN made up.

In my first post this morning, I mentioned that comedian/actor Jay Mohr will do some things for FoxSports.com. Well, he’s already written his first column for the website and it’s horrible (Thanks to Deadspin for the link).

Jonathan Abrams of the Los Angeles Times says more athletes are now bypassing the media through blogging. The Red Sox’ Curt Schilling comes to mind as an example.

In the 38 Cliches blog, LC is estatic that Dave O’Brien plans to do more Red Sox games next season, but is sad in the short term that Obie is doing the Bonds watch this week for ESPN.

Primetime and late night viewing choices coming up.
