Fang’s Bites Podcast No. 17, Part 1 — John Skipper, ESPN

I originally had suspended the podcast due to my new work schedule, however, I’m bringing it back for two parts this week after attending last week’s Media Day at ESPN unveiling its new Digital Center 2 building. This 194,000 square foot building will house SportsCenter and its 16 hours of programming and all of ESPN’s NFL studio programming.

The first show to be aired from the building will be a SportsCenter co-hosted by Steve Levy and Stuart Scott on June 22.

The building has a lot of bells and whistles and is “future-proof.” I guess it means ESPN will be able to use the building for any type of television industry standard now and in the future.

John Skipper met with the media gathering and discussed a myriad of subjects. Here is what was discussed with reporters on May 22, 2014.

  • Whether Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann will make a one-time reunion in the new building.
  • The discussions with DirecTV over SEC Network.
  • Whether DC-2 will be obsolete.
  • Skipper’s reaction to the producers of the PBS documentary “League of Denial” that the network abandoned the project.
  • ESPN’s plans for the World Cup.
  • ESPN’s attitude toward Fox Sports 1.
  • What’s next for SportsCenter?

Overall, it’s an interesting podcast. You can find it on iTunes by doing a search for “Fang’s Bites.” You can also go to the Fang’s Bites Podcast Garden episode page and listen to it there. Or you can listen to it immediately here.
