ESPN Previews NFL Week 3

We have what ESPN will air on Sunday NFL Countdown, plus its preview of the Monday Night game between Dallas and Washington.

Here’s ESPN’s quick blurb on the features you’ll see on Sunday NFL Countdown on a three hour show.

Sunday NFL Countdown: Miracle at the ‘New’ Meadowlands, Ndamukong Suh, Ryan Fitzpatrick’s Mind

Chris Berman and analysts Cris CarterMike DitkaTom JacksonKeyshawn Johnson (on the main set) and Suzy Kolber, Bill Parcells and Merril Hoge (on the second set), will preview Week 3 matchups on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m.  NFL Insider Adam Schefter and senior analyst Chris Mortensen will provide the day’s headlines and league news.

The program will include four reporters at key games: Rachel Nichols – New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills; Bob Holtzman – Houston Texans at New Orleans Saints; Sal Paolantonio – New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles; and Josina Anderson – Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears.  Highlights:

  • Miracle at the ‘New’ Meadowlands:  Week 15 last season, Giants rookie punter Matt Dodge punted a line drive for 36 yards to DeSean Jackson, whose return prompted the Eagles game-winning touchdown.  Jeremy Schaap reports on how Dodge dealt with the ordeal.
  • The Mind of Bills Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick:  Having completed 45 of 71 passes in two games for a very productive 472 yards, Fitzpatrick has led the Buffalo Bills to a 2-0 start.  Rachel Nichols looks into the mind of the Harvard University graduate, drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft.
  • Mayne Event – Drew Bledsoe/Tom Brady Anniversary: In his self-titled, off-beat segment, Kenny Mayne revisits the day Tom Brady replaced injured Drew Bledsoe as quarterback of the New England Patriots.  This is the 10-anniversary of the game vs. the Jets.
  • Ndamukong Suh – Art of the Sack:  The Detroit Lions defensive tackle presents the sack in his own words.
  • Soundtracks – Darrelle Revis:  Countdown presents a special “Soundtracks” with in-game audio of Pro Bowl cornerback in the New York Jets season-opening matchup vs. the Dallas Cowboys.

Monday Night Football: Redskins-Cowboys Rivalry Renewed as Part of NFL’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

ESPN’s Monday Night Football, September 26 at 8:30 p.m. ET, features a classic NFL rivalry as Rex Grossman and the first-place Washington Redskins (2-0) battle Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys (1-1) for the 15th time on the MNF stage – the second-most popular matchup in the show’s history behind the Raiders-Broncos who have faced off 16 times.  The Cowboys have won four of the last five meetings, but Washington is vying for its first 3-0 start since 2005. The game will be part of the NFL’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration and will inlcude special graphic integrations and features, as well as themed lyrics within the Hank Williams Jr. opening video.

Play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico and analysts Jon Gruden and Ron Jaworski will call the game.  Ed Werder will report from the sidelines. Additionally, play-by-play announcer Alvaro Martin, analyst and Super Bowl champion Raul Allegre and reporter John Sutcliffe will be on site for the Spanish-language telecast on ESPN Deportes.

Beginning at 7 p.m., the 90-minute Monday Night Countdown will preview the game with host Chris Berman, analysts Cris CarterMike DitkaTom JacksonKeyshawn Johnson, and NFL Insiders Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter from the Bristol, Conn., studios.  Stuart ScottTrent Dilfer and Steve Young, along with contributor Rick Reilly, will join the conversation from Cowboys Stadium.
