Preview of Sports Media Weekly Podcast No. 166 with NESN’s Don Orsillo

This week’s Sports Media Weekly podcast will be with Don Orsillo, the Boston Red Sox play-by-play man for NESN and who has been calling the MLB Postseason for TBS since 2007. Orsillo will call the Detroit-Oakland American League Division Series for TBS starting on Friday. As he was packing for Oakland, Don took a few minutes to speak with the Sports Media Weekly podcast about his work on NESN and TBS, plus the markets he worked before arriving at NESN in 2001. In addition, he spoke calling games nationally as opposed to doing them for a local audience. And Don talked about being a foodie.

In this clip, Don says with the new MLB TV contracts beginning in 2014 and TBS carrying only two of the four League Division Series starting next, this will likely be his last year in calling the MLB Postseason for Turner Sports.

Before Don hit NESN in 2001, he worked in Minor League Baseball on radio as well as the American Hockey League’s Springfield affiliate. Don tells us his stops before getting the call to the Big Leagues.

And in the final clip, Don says he’s a foodie and loves to eat out in all of the American League cities.

The entire interview will be uploaded later tonight.
