Canada's Olympic Broadcasting Consortium's Schedule for Day 9 of the Winter Olympics

We’re now officially at the midway point of the Winter Olympics. CTV is riding momentum to the finish and here is what it and the other networks in the Olympic Broadcast Consortium are showing on Saturday.

Curling: Men’s – Undefeated Team Canada (4-0) faces off against 2009 World Champion David Murdoch of Great Britain, who sits 2-2 (Rogers Sportsnet, RIS Info Sports, CTVOlympics.ca, RDSolympiques.ca)

DAY 9 – ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)
OLYMPIC MORNING – With a recent Super Bowl victory under his belt, Reggie Bush (also know as the beau of reality TV star Kim Kardashian) chats with Daryn Jones. The hosts will also discuss the top performers of the ice dance competition and if Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir have what it takes to win gold.

LE RÉVEIL OLYMPIQUE – Well-known French Canadian stand-up comedian Louis-José Houde chats with host Claude Mailhot. Danièle Sauvageau appears in-studio to offer her analysis of the women’s hockey competition at Vancouver 2010.

ETALK and FASHIONTELEVISION – ETALK surprises golden boy Alexandre Bilodeau with a visit from his comedic idol. Ben Mulroney also goes skating with Nancy Robertson, CORNER GAS alum and star of the new CTV series HICCUPS.

MOD LIVE @ THE BASE – Jacob and Chris from Hedley co-host the show with MuchMusic VJs Sarah Taylor and Jesse Giddings, and Jully Black and the PEAK SEASON cast drop by the set. Saturday’s Victory Ceremony concert features Welsh rockers Stereophonics.

DIGITAL LOUNGE – The Canada vs. USA men’s hockey game is previewed and interviews with Jamie Salé and David Pelletier are featured.

Vancouver, BC (February 19, 2010) – Sidney Crosby’s game-winning shootout goal for Team Canada was watched by an incredible 12 million viewers, preliminary overnight data from BBM Canada data confirms. The 3-2 overtime win over Switzerland was watched on average by 6.8 million viewers, with 769,000 viewers on V/CPAC and RDS. Nearly 19 million Canadians tuned in to some part of the game. After Day 7, 96.3% of the population – or 32.27 million Canadians – have engaged with Vancouver 2010 coverage, according to Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium’s CUME index.

  • Through 7 days, 31.7 million Canadians have experienced the Games on television, representing 94.6% of the population.
  • 77% of Vancouverites have watched some of the Games outside of their homes.
  • On CTV alone, the Team Canada hockey game (5.02M) doubled SURVIVOR (Global/CBS, 2.45M) from 8-9 p.m. ET.
  • Christine Nesbitt’s gold medal performance in Speed Skating (Ladies’ 1000m) was watched by 1.5 million viewers; later last night, 4.1 million viewers watched her presented with her medal during the Victory Ceremony on CTV and RDS.
  • The CAN/GER match in Women’s Curling delivered 1.25 million viewers for TSN, while 1.37 million viewers watched the Men’s Free Skate.
  • Curling was also a big draw on Rogers Sportsnet, with 909,000 viewers tuning in to see Kevin Martin skip his fourth win for Canada over France.
  • JEUX OLYMPIQUES AUX HEURES DE GRANDE ÉCOUTE delivered 696,000 viewers for V/CPAC, RDS and RIS, while JEUX OLYMPIQUES EN JOURNÉE was watched by 374,000 viewers.

Additional Highlights – Online

  • Page views on CTVOlympics.ca and RDSolympiques.ca since the beginning of the Games have now topped 80 million.
  • After a six-day run, “Opening Ceremonies” was knocked off the podium by “Shaun White” as the most-searched term on Consortium sites.
  • Total video consumption continues to rise. More than half a million hours of video was viewed on Day 7, and video visitors are watching more than one hour of video on average.
  • Live events continue to draw great crowds online as almost 190,000 video views of live Games coverage were generated last night.
  • Canadians are following Team Canada medal winners as the top-viewed on-demand videos were the Ladies’ Speed Skating 1000m gold medal winning performance by Christine Nesbitt, and Marianne St-Gelais’ interview with Brian Williams following her silver win in Short Track Speed Skating.
  • People want to know more about Canadian curlers as the top athlete profiles on Day 7 were: #1 Cheryl Bernard (Curling) and #2 Kevin Martin (Curling). Also of interest were #3 Maëlle Ricker (Snowboard), #4 Johnny Weir (Figure Skating), #5 Christine Nesbitt (Speed Skating).
