DEVELOPING: Comcast Getting Closer to Buying NBC

In a story that will be in tomorrow’s New York Times, we find that NBC is getting closer to being under Comcast’s fold. Michael J. de la Merced and Andrew Ross Sorkin write that a formal announcement of Comcast’s purchase to become a majority owner of NBC is expected as early as next week.

It appears Comcast and General Electric came to a tentative agreement late last week that would give the cable provider a 51% stake in NBC Universal with GE retaining 49%.

As I speculated back on September 30 when the story first broke, a combined Comcast/NBC would become a very powerful sports entity as well as a giant entertainment conglomerate.

We’ll keep our eyes open for any other breaking news on this story.
