DAVIS ON NOTRE DAME – TEAM WANTED REES: Following their upset loss to South Florida Saturday, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly made the announcement that Tommy Rees will be the starting QB this weekend against Michigan. FOX College Football lead analyst Charles Davis talks about the decision to go with Rees and Kelly’s demeanor on the sidelines. “You had to go to Rees,” said Davis. “I almost felt like the team wanted Rees the whole game but Brian Kelly missed the signal and went with the more talented guy, instead of the guy the team responds to best. It’s similar to that of Brad Johnson/Casey Weldon at Florida State in the early 90’s – Johnson was the pro, but the team played better for Weldon. As for Kelly’s blow up on the sidelines, I have no problem with it at all but Notre Dame might. Nebraska’s Bo Pelini was called by his school chancellor after something similar. Notre Dame will be keeping a close eye on how he handles himself from here out.”

NOTRE DAME – In advance of this weekend’s Michigan-Notre Dame tilt, BTN televises a classic Michigan victory from the series with Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 9 (8:00 PM ET). In this 1999 matchup between the Wolverines and the Fighting Irish, Tom Brady leads No. 7 Michigan to a 26-22 victory against No. 16 Notre Dame. Anthony Thomas’ 1-yard touchdown plunge with 1:38 to go was the final tally in a game that saw six lead changes and a wild fourth quarter. Thomas rushed for 138 yards and two scores in front of an NCAA-record crowd of 111,523.
