Programming For The Early Part of This Week

I have a ton of press releases to post and little time to do them so I’ll get to them while I can.

Beginning with ESPN, it premieres “Campus Connection Week”, a series of college basketball games that gives viewers the opportunity to see what life is like on college campuses.

ESPNU Campus Connection Week Features College Students Contributing to ESPN Telecasts

For the second consecutive year, ESPN will provide college students with an opportunity to participate in the production of men’s and women’s college basketball telecasts as part of ESPNU Campus Connection Week from Monday, Jan. 25, to Sunday, Jan. 31. Throughout the week, telecasts will provide viewers with an all-access pass to campus life through student-generated content from across the country. Editorial roles include producer, sideline reporter, play-by-play announcer, stage manager, camera operator, statistician, audio assistant and more.
ESPNU Campus Connection Week will feature student involvement in 49 men’s and women’s games across ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU, highlighted by two featuring more than 10 students contributing to the overall telecast in key roles. ESPNU will televise those two games, both featuring men’s conference showdowns: Alabama State at Southern on Monday, Jan. 25, at 9 p.m. ET and No. 24 Mississippi at Auburn on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 9 p.m. (a complete schedule is below).
ESPNU Campus Connection Week Highlights on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU:
  • ESPNU Campus Connection Week will encompass coverage of 81 schools representing 16 conferences.
  • Every game will feature at least one ESPNU Campus Connection element and one profile on a student-athlete.
  • The “ESPNU Extra Credit” segment – student(s) conveying something unique about his/her college – will return for 30 of the 49 games. For example, Notre Dame students will provide insight into why the football program’s slogan “Play Like A Champion” is for more than just the team.
  • Telecasts involving Texas, Maryland, Boston College and DePaul will have a student sideline reporter from those respective schools. Highlights include Dan Duquette Jr., son of the former Boston Red Sox general manager, working a Boston College game and DePaul softball player Sheana Warren working a Blue Demons game.
  • Some of the participating students will be “embedded reporters” among the fans during telecasts featuring some of the most vocal student sections in the BIG EAST, including Marquette, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia.
  • Former Campus Connection student reporter and current ESPN analyst Abby Waner will be a reporter on two ESPNU women’s telecasts: Louisiana Tech at Nevada on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 11 p.m. and Georgia at Auburn Sunday, Jan, 31, at 6 p.m. In addition to Waner, two former Campus Connection students now work at ESPN, both in behind-the-scenes production roles.
  • ESPNU will offer several “For Love of the Game” interstitials featuring testimonials from student-athletes on why they love what they do, including from Quincy Pondexter (Washington), Malik Perry (Ball State) and Katrina Thompson (Duke).
  • Indiana and Illinois students will debate which of the school’s Assembly Hall basketball facilities is better.
  • Select telecasts will feature the integration of student radio calls.
  • Student-produced vignettes will be used during several telecasts.
  • Kansas State students will provide an inside look at a College GameDay telecast when the show originates from No. 3 Kansas at No. 9 Kansas State Saturday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Fans will have the opportunity to post comments and photos relevant to their respective institutions and alma maters on the college basketball and ESPNU.com sections of ESPN.com.
ESPNU Campus Connection Week is an expansion of the larger ESPNU Campus Connection brand that was launched in January 2008, a student-generated content initiative that involves more than 150 colleges and universities throughout the U.S. Students regularly provide content for game telecasts and studio shows through short-form pieces on student athletes and campus life, as reporters, on-air announcers, producers and camera operators, among other roles. The emphasis is on providing an authentic look at campus life through the eyes and voices of the students. Other examples have included writing articles for ESPN.com, programming the ESPNU network for a day and working on special academic projects.
In addition to opportunities during ESPNU Campus Connection Week, ESPNU will televise three additional basketball games with extensive college student participation in February:

And viewers of Fox Sports Ohio will see the season premiere of Reds Classic Rewind with games dating back to the 1970’s so if you’re a baseball history buff, this series might just be for you.

REDS CLASSIC REWINDS RETURN ON FOX SPORTS OHIO

Ohio’s leading regional sports network to televise 6 classic Cincinnati Reds games beginning next week.

CINCINNATI, OHIOCincinnati Reds fans won’t have to wait until Opening Day to cheer on their home team. FOX Sports Ohio will televise six (6) classic Reds games from the franchise’s storied history. FOX Sports Ohio debuts the return of this entertaining classic series Monday, January 25th at 10:30pm, with new episodes each Monday as noted below

Hosts Thom Brennaman, Jeff Brantley and Jeff Piecoro take viewers on a trip through Reds history with archival games featuring the “Big Red Machine,” the return of the re-mastered 1976 NLCS game with Marty Brennaman and Joe Nuxhall, the 1970 World Series Game 4, Browning’s perfect game, and more.

Mon., Jan. 25th10:30pm             On September 11, 1985, a sellout crowd at Riverfront Stadium and a national television audience were watching to see if Pete Rose could break Ty Cobb’s hit record. After going 0-for-4 the previous night, Rose didn’t disappoint. He hit a line drive single to left field off San Diego’s Eric Show on a 2-1 pitch for hit No. 4,192.

Mon., Feb. 1st – 8pm                     On October 22, 1975, the Reds faced the Boston Red Sox in Game 7 of what has been ranked one of the best World Series ever. The “Big Red Machine” won it in the ninth to clinch the first of back-to-back World Series championships.

Mon., Feb. 8th – 8pm                    After 11 big league years, Tom Seaver was finally able to cross off one of the few achievements that had eluded him in his magnificent career with his only no-hitter on June 16, 1978.

Mon., Feb.15th – 8pm                   A two-hour, 27-minute rain delay didn’t halt Tom Browning, who retired all 27 Los Angeles Dodgers he faced in a 1-0 victory on September 16, 1988. Browning concluded the only perfect game in Reds history by retiring Rick Dempsey on a fly to deep right field, Steve Sax on a grounder to shortstop and Tracy Woodson on a strikeout. A throwing error accounted for the Reds’ only run.

Mon., Feb. 22nd – 8pm                 We’re bringing back the re-mastered version of the classic Reds game from October 12, 1976, when the Reds swept the Phillies in NLCS Game 3. This special telecast includes original video from NBC synced with the audio of Reds veteran duo Marty Brennaman and Joe Nuxhall.

Mon., Mar.1st – 10pm                   On October 14, 1970, the Reds faced Baltimore in Game 4 of the World Series. The Reds lost the series but won this game 6-5 thanks to clutch hitting by Lee May and stellar relief pitching by rookie Don Gullett and veteran Clay Carroll. Featuring a very young and upcoming Big Red Machine, this game is one of the oldest known Reds games to exist in its entirety.

That’s going to wrap it up for this post.
