NBC’s Monday Olympic Primetime Ratings Down From 2010; NBCSN Up from 2012; CNBC Also Up

NBC has provided the ratings for Monday’s Olympic primetime program. The Peacock saw a 10 percent decline from Vancouver on the first Monday of the Olympics. Last night’s ratings saw a 12.8 number and a 20 share for the tape delayed coverage compared to Vancouver’s 14.2/22 for mostly live programming. Compared to Turin in 2006, it’s pretty much even at 12.8/19.

Average viewership for last night was 22.4 million as compared to 25.2 million viewers in 2010 and 21.1 million for Turin.

As for NBCSN, it’s reaping the benefits of live Olympic coverage seeing an average of one million viewers between 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday. Between 3 and 6 a.m., NBCSN ran taped curling. For the first three days, NBCSN is averaging 1.6 million viewers which is 60% higher for the first three days of London in 2012.

CNBC registered an average of 1.2 million viewers Monday evening for its taped coverage of the US-Norway men’s curling match.

Salt Lake City was the top-rated local market with a 21.7/39. Minneapolis was second with 19.9/32 and Denver was third with a 19.5/33. Milwaukee was fourth and Austin, TX was 5th. Oklahoma City, Albuquerque, Chicago, Greenboro, NC and Portland, OR round out the top 10. Do you notice a trend there? Yes, the only market in the Eastern half of the country in the top ten was Greenboro. Not sure why that is.
