Tuesday Midday Update

Back at home after going to the meeting and having to prevent a flooding situation in the basement (heavy rains in Southern New England today). Now that’s done, I can give you a few links here and there.

After a slow start today, Newsday’s Neil Best is at it again. I think he’s still in vacation mode as many of his posts are on the silly side, but I think Best would admit he’s a bit silly. But one post of substance is on Ron Jaworski’s performance on Monday Night Football.

King Kaufman in the Salon web magazine has praise for Jaworski as well.

The Orbitcast blog on satellite radio reports that Sirius has debuted a new sports channel in its sports tier. It has live programming provided from Sporting News Radio as well as some Sirius-produced shows along with live play-by-play.

Jim Williams of the Baltimore/DC Examiner introduces a new feature: Good Line/Bad Line from the NFL studio shows.

Jackie Majerus of the Bristol (CT) Press seems to be on the ESPN beat as the sports behemoth is located there. She talks with ESPN President George Bodenheimer on why the Alleged Worldwide Leader is successful. And Majerus writes that ESPN celebrated its 28th birthday with an employees-only museum-like exhibit showing how far the channel has come.

Greg Paeth of the Cincinnati Post says the economic impact of ESPN coming to town was felt the last few days.

This is one of the reasons to hate ESPN. The forcefeeding of music down our throats during game broadcasts. ESPN plans to unveil new songs during Monday Night Football over the next few weeks. I can’t wait to read what Phil Mushnick has to say about this in a future New York Post column.

The Business Journal of Milwaukee reports that Marquette University men’s basketball games will be divided between Time Warner Cable and two over the air TV stations.

John Ryan of the San Jose Mercury News attended the invitation-only “Chalk Talk” luncheon held by the ESPN Monday Night Football crew.

Going away from an ESPN-heavy entry, the ratings for the men’s and women’s finals for the US Open on CBS were down compared to last year.

Some breaking news, Jay Glazer of Fox reports that the Cleveland Browns have traded QB Charlie Frye to Seattle. I think we’ll see Brady Quinn against Cincinnati this week.

That’s it. I’ll have Primetime and Late Night Viewing Picks later today.
