The highest rated college football package from the last two seasons has been the SEC on CBS. The mostly late Saturday afternoon series continues to do well for the Tiffany Network and it brings back Uncle Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson and Tracy “The Wolf” Wolfson. It also marks the return of College Football Today with co-hosts Tim Brando and Spencer Tillman. Mr. College Football, Tony Barnhart will be in the mix as well.
Saturday brings us Tennessee at Florida in Gainesville. Game time is 3:30 p.m. Eastern. College Football Today airs at 3 p.m. And CBS is starting a couple of features this week to help promote the game and let fans get closer to the game. CBS Sports kicks off its 11th season of national coverage of SEC football with the “Game of the Week” on Saturday, Sept. 17 (3:30-7:00 PM, ET) with Tennessee taking on *No. 16-ranked Florida.
Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson, CBS Sports’ lead college football announce team call the action with Tracy Wolfson reporting from the sidelines from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla. Craig Silver, the Network’s coordinating producer of college football, produces and Steve Milton directs.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL TODAY, the Network’s pre-game, halftime and post-game studio show, starts the day on CBS Sports (3:00 PM, ET) with host Tim Brando, Spencer Tillman and “Mr. College Football” Tony Barnhart. COLLEGE FOOTBALL TODAY will keep viewers updated on all the games throughout the afternoon with scores and highlights. Vin DeVito produces and Linda Malino directs.
After CBS Sports’ live SEC game coverage each Saturday throughout the season, CBS SPORTS NETWORK takes over with SEC TONIGHT (7:00-8:00 PM, ET), providing a recap of all the news, scores and highlights from around the SEC.
Following Saturday’s game, CBSSports.com will launch the “5th Quarter with Gary Danielson,” an interactive show produced live from the SEC ON CBS CRUISER, an all-access mobile media vehicle fully outfitted with the latest technology. The “5th Quarter with Gary Danielson” will provide fans an opportunity to chat with Danielson and discuss all the day’s SEC storylines and college football news. Florida’s October is brutal. When you look at their schedule, this is a game they have to win. It’s a must-win for Will Muschamp. Because if you don’t win this game, October could be an 0-fer. Everyone wants to see progress and when the previous coach has beaten Tennessee six times in a row, you don’t want to lose at home.(On Tennessee-Florida Match-up)
Both teams have to prove that they are worthy as mention as contenders for the SEC. They clearly are not in the upper echelon of teams at the beginning of the season, but when we entered this game just a year ago most of the talking heads believed that Florida was the team to beat. A year ago you could see all the star players in blue. This year you can see that the difference makers on the field on offense, although Florida has many, so does Tennessee. I have been touting him (Tyler Bray) for a year and a half and he was my breakout sleeper player of the SEC this year. I think he is going to be a tough one for Florida to handle because they have weapons on the field now where you just can not tilt the field from one side to the other. They have receivers on both sides. I like their passing game chances in this game.
